Long time members, how do you cope with so much tragedy on this forum?

I firmly believe that if we treat the internet like television (entertain me!) we will ultimately be left empty and disappointed. My joy and energy comes from connecting with people, heart-to-heart. When that happens, it is a beautiful thing. That sort of connection is rare enough in real life, let alone the internet.

Yet, here we are. Newbies signing on all the time, asking the same questions and going through the same anguish of discovery as we did. Even so, every one of their stories is unique and engaging. It is their awakening, and my participation in it, that is a joy.

    Ooh JGNat, that's good..............

I thik at different times this forum fulfills different needs, I've been through a spectrum of them over the past 18 months.............still not a huge poster, but check in regularly..............still hooked!

I had been out of the cult for 20+ years when I found JWD, most days I post, some days I just read, on the days I can't get to a computer I wonder who's on, if anyone is having a crises, any good news so I guess I'm addicted. I think letting a thing like an internet discussion board get the best of you is something each and everyone has control over.

JUST DON'T GO TO THE SITE!!!

reading the tragic stories reminds us we're not alone in our suffering. I'm grateful for the sympathy I received when I posted here in pain and depression, I'd like to be supportive of others. Also, there are a lot of really intelligent thoughtful people, I like to see what they are talking about, what they think. It's a community like any other - some pain, some laughs, a lot of chatter. It gets repetitive but that's just because lots of people are having the same experiences in life.

    Good points jgnat.

From my own personal experience I can say that the help and advice I received from (mostly) everybody here during the time when I was helping my wife see the error of the WTS was very important. One of the main reasons I stay is so I can continue to help other people like I was helped. I've received many positive comments from people and have talked to a number of different people on the phone. Opening up to other people is important and this board has helped in a number of ways.
