I thought cults were like Hare-Krishna's, or people who followed a man that forced them to live in a isolated community.

Exactly! Never thought JWs was a cult because we were free to live in the world. But not act like the world. I felt JWs HAD something there called true religion and worship....but as the years passed I begin to see through all that phony doctrine.

I know my wife one time was talking about how so many cults have their compounds where many of them live. All a sudden it was like a light bulb went off "they have multiple compounds in New York!".

Brinjen- I also used to think people in cults were obscure, strangely robed people running around chanting or drinking poison like Jim Jones group, or in America with David Koresh, just seemed like controlled people. Then 4 years ago started thinking, hey Jw's are all controlled!! Now they just freak me out when I see them doing street witnessing standing like statues with their magazines!.They don't even try talking to people, they're totally spaced out! Like under a spell or drugged. Glad I'm out. Peace, Mr. Flipper

I used to think that cult members were deluded people who were
so brainwashed by their leader(s) that they weren't capable of
    thinking for themselves.

I see jws in exactly the same way nowadays

I always wanted to go to the Fire Man celebration in North West Nevada and run around nude, and drink beer and behave like a Moron.
