Has anyone ever checked the "Reviews" for Crisis of Conscience" on amazon.com? This dork of a Dub gave the book the lowest score possible along with the following comments:

IF YOU LIKE READING "TRASH" READ THIS BOOK..., September 8, 2003

    Reviewer: A reader

Eventhough I myself am not one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I've learned alot from my relatives who ARE members of this world-wide ORGANIZATION. I emphasis "organization" because of the manner that Jehovah's Witnesses go about in any aspect of their day-today dealings in this world. They are quite simply, a people of HIGH standards. Instead of looking at other peoples faults, the witnesses look at the GOOD in people and by example help a person to cultivate such a quality in their own daily lives. I strongly beleive that this is the KEY to avoiding any form of prejudice in the world today. Has anyone ever noticed that you will never see one of Jehovah's Witnesses (JW's) respond to accusations given by many IGNORANT people whose main goal is to try and try and HUMILIATE these good people by any means possible? It seems that the witnesses let their own "actions" speak for themselves. They always seem to bring out the BEST in people whenever any one of us non-members have the opportunity to speak to them. That is if you give them the time. This book however, brings out the worst in the human race in general but ironicly reinforces what the bible clearly states about "GOD'S PEOPLE" being hated and ridiculed (or 'persecuted')in the time of the END of this system of things (or rather 'world'). I have found through my extensive research in the JW'S after reading this book, I have come to the conclusion that this organization (or as the book brings out: "the Governing Body") of JW'S had DISFELLOWSHIPPED the author of this book as even the Catholic Church continues to do (as well as many other religious orginizations do from time to time) DISCOMMUNICATED the author. The main reason being that the previous member of the orginization had been speaking in such a way to other members in the organization at "Bethel" (as the JW'S refer to their main office in Brooklyn, New York) so as to mislead them into leaving the JW'S.

And upon being asked to resign his position from the "Governing Body" had attempted to become a leader in a local JW church and even went as far as to associate himself with a previous DISASSOCIATED member of a local "congregation" in his area (or rather 'church') with an attempt to form his own sect. In reality, the author was asked to discontinue his association with the DISASSOCIATED member immediately so as not to encourage others to do the same. The reason being that the former JW had continued doing wrong according to the beliefs as brought out in the holy scriptures (or rather 'bible'). This "wrong doing" continued to happen even after the member had been warned REPEATEDLY. But, of course the author neglects to bring this out in his aacount of the happenings in this book. In any case, if you're looking for a book that CLEARLY explains the practices of Jehovah's Witnesses, why not ask them yourself? If you're still anxiously looking for a GOOD book before taking this step, visit one of their gatherings at a local church (or as they refer to them a "kingdom hall"). You may even want to visit on of their "WATCHTOWER CONVENTION OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES". Only then can you form your own conclusions based on your un-altered opinion. By the way, I prefer to remain anonymous due to the fact in their being many ANTI-Jehovah's Witnesses who would like nothing better to do than try to find me and email me with 'petty' ridicule. Hope this review helped any honest-hearted individual.

What a loser AND a liar. I guess people like this think that it gives their writings more credibility by trying to say that they're not Witnesses. The main problem is, there's a certain jargon of words and phrases that non-Witnesses simply wouldn't know. It's a dead giveaway as demonstrated above.

I see absolutely no benefit claiming that one is a child. I can see denying being a witness--that's an attempt at faking a "balanced" view. However, what goal does claiming to be a 13 year old girl achieve? Nothing. I see no reason.

However, what age group seem to be most overtly obsessed with their own age? Is that not juveniles? Wouldn't they be much more likely to include their age for no reason? Furthermore, the writing is on a very juvenile level.

In conclusion, I see no reason to accuse the author of this one as lying. Mary's book review, however, is a different story.

From the grammar and spelling I figured that it was from an older person posing as a teen. He was copying the style of teen text messagers who have no regard for correct spelling or format but he didn't do well with his copying effort.

When I first started going online in AOL chatrooms years ago I was amazed at how JWs online would outright lie to make their beliefs to make them seem more apealling. They'd lie about shunning, not being allowed to get an education, timing keeping, false prophecies, etc... If it painted them in a bad light they'd lie about it. Not all of them but a large percentage.

Randy, I got just about the same email myself last week from some one who
said she was offended by my website. Apart from claiming she was offended,
the terminology and spelling is the same as the one you received, and she
claimed to be 13 as well.

Maybe it's a new watchtower tactic - get someone to pretend to be an offended
child in the hope we go easy on the org in future (no chance).

I got this one, from someone who seems to claim to like jws but not be one, a
    couple of days ago

What I don't understand is why, if you
leave Jehovah's Witnesses, all you do is slag them off. When they come to
my door they seem decent enough people, they don't seem scared of a big
brother organisation and simply want to give a good message from the
bible. The Panorama program a few years ago appeared to be meat and drink
to ex witnesses who went on the rampage with their slagging off. It
made it sound like JWs were an organised bunch of child abusers.

Child abusers were challenged and lied to the people in charge. Who is
wrong there, JWs or child abusers? Who the greater wrong doer, the
child abuser or the JW who didn't handle the situation very well? As it was
reported, the JWs who handled the matter badly were struck off their
    jobs.

JW's did not create the child abusers, the abusers simply take
advantage of the JWs gentle manner of dealing with matters. If someone lies to
them about what they have done, who do JWs believe, the abused or the
abuser if they deny it. They are not policemen. If someone is abused it
is not the fault of JWs as a religeon is it?

Why do ex witnesses bother. If you don't like what you see or learn,
why don't you just go to another religeon?

If witnesses packed up and disbanded tommorrow what would you do?

    Would that make you happy?

When I meet JWs they are happy people, friendly.

When I meet ex JWs they are bitter, vengeful and appear to spend their
time in a non productive work of dragging current witnesses down - not
    happy people at all.

If JWs are not the "true" religeon why don't you just leave and go and
find the real "true" one and be happy?

    I don't understand you!

I was going to reply, but didn't bother. I did email them to say that I had accepted
the message on my site as, unlike the watchtower, I am willing to accept opinions
that I disagree with, and left it at that

    IQuit:

Yes, I do know that many JWs deny or play down that they practice shunning or not being allowed to get an education. You would not believe the mental and verbal gymnastics they go through to convince somebody these things are not true. I think they feel ashamed at some level and therefore feel it is their duty to be "loyal" and lie about it. But, they are not lying of course. They are engaging in theocratic strategy and have to make the religion look good no matter what.

    Dedpoet:

Sadly, JWs do see ex-JWs as being bitter and vengeful, etc. and therefore by contrast convince themselves that they must have the "truth". Unfortunately, to an innocent bystander who doesn't know the real story, they may look better.

that makes you an apostate and you left because of your chose so please dont stumble someone because you dont believe its the truth anymore thanks

What really galls me (wow-that's an old expression my mom used but it seems to fit here) is that someone (in this case presumably a 13 year old) goes to a non JW approved, unnoficial, "apostate," anti-JW, JW bashing site, reads alot of stuff on it, and then sends a message saying that YOU are the apostate and they are STUMBLED because THEY went to the site and read it.

    I just don't get it......
