POWER!

When I first stumbled across this and other sites and began fading from Watchtower land, I had one question that would NOT go away.

Why would the Governing body and the men at the top of the Organization continue with their deception? Surely they were not gaining financially from the Scam, at least not in any obvious way?

But five years on, the answer has become sickeningly unavoidable.

There is only ONE reason why those who are at the top continue, including those who are still believers, but see the destruction wrought by the following of Watchtower doctrines. That reasonn is POWER!

I've wrestled with this for a long time. I've thought that no one would do such a thing except for money, would they?

    But POWER IS everything!!!

POWER brings everything else in its wake. It brings comfort, rewards that include money and to some sex. It brings the brightest and the best! It brings EGO massage! Everything else follows in its wake!

Do the Governing Body stand at bus queues?

Do the Governing Body have to ask permission from anyone to do anything?

Do the Governing Body wait on hospital waiting lists and see second rate doctors?

    POWER! POWER is everything!

Almost annonymous power is even better as it removes you from criticism from 'Underlings'.

The Governing Body have their cake and eat it!

    Finally, I understand!

Good point Gill. It all makes perfect sense.

On a smaller scale I thought this too when i see how my father is, he enjoys the power that he has, and he really doesnt want to relinquish it.

free2think - don't you think that money can give you a lot of things that you want but not necessarily give you power or 'respect' from others.

However, power can give you money and everything that goes with it!

I know which one is worth more!

Very true, and once you have it it is very difficult to let it all go.

I wish I could find a quote from one of Ray Franz's books. He mentioned if a governing body member wanted to travel anywhere in the world, all he had to do was to arrange to give a talk at a convention, and he could travel first class and receive first-rate treatment. This is one of the advantages he gave up when he left the governing body.

Your post reminds me of my father, whenever I call to see how they are doing he'll say, "Oh, I have another committee meeting", or "I had to stay late at the hall for a judicial matter", blah blah blah. He just seems to take great pride in his power of the R&F. These meetings are so important, translated to I'm so important.

It is very sad, but you are absolutely correct.

It also accounts for the behaviour of many of their followers.

SOME elders, co's and do's choose not to question the WBTS, because the GB

is the source of their power in the congregation.

Power is something most crave but very few can control.

True is the saying by Lord Acton : Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
