Punished by our “friends” for the letter we sent.

Some of you may have read our exit letter from August of last year which we sent to about 50 of our close JW "friends", many of whom we had been very close to for decades. We just told them what we had learned regarding the UN scandal and provided all the documentation. We never disassociated ourselves, nor have we been disfellowshipped. We didn't "fade", we just "dropped out".

As background, my wife and I operate a small electronic security business. We install and service security systems, mainly for homes. Thankfully, we took very seriously the counsel from the Society to not use our spiritual relationships for business advantage. So we never solicited witnesses to be our customers. But some who knew how we made our living approached us and became customers. As a consequence, JWs make up an insignificant part of our customer base. Out of about 400 current customers, only five were JWs we knew who had purchased systems from us, as well as contracted for ongoing monitoring service for several years.

Over the course of the last ten months, since we sent the letter, one by one, they have all cancelled their contracts with us, giving the lamest of reasons, which are obviously lies. We are so happy that we didn't have, say, 50% of our customer base as witnesses. In that case we surely would have lost half of our income. So, for us, it is primarily symbolic. They are sending us a message. Those five represented about $2,000 annually of gross receipts. It could have been far worse. It's just interesting that they have used the only avenue available to them to "punish" us. They are only following the whore's direction, after all. The Watchtower counsels against having any business dealings with former witnesses.

The last one arrived today, from a "sister" who studied with my wife up to the point of baptism. They had shared a closeness, as evidenced by a plaque she gave my wife years ago, which states:

"Moments spent with a special friend are the times we wish would never end."

Apparently she no longer feels that way.

JW lurkers beware. They'll gitcha anyway they can! If you have a business consisting in large part of repeat business with JWs, I strongly encourage you to re-apportion your customer base to primarily non-JW. Otherwise, if you ever decide to take the red pill, don't be surprised if your customers leave in droves. It has resulted in financial ruin for some. Any who think JWs are not vindictive are really living in a fantasy world. This experience has proven it to me beyond the shadow of a doubt.

I'm so sorry to hear this Lenny. we had the same experience when we left. we lost quite a bit of our clients and they tried to make sure they bad mouthed our business as much as possible. bastards.

it's so lame that they can't even keep their security systems separate from their religion!

I can see how the advice not to use spiritual relationships for expanding business in the end worked in your favour but this is otherwise very strange and bad advice, the leaders of an org should advise their members to help each other out as much as possible and do business between themselves.

Clearly the dubs hate ex members so much they wouldn't want to do any business with them unless they really have to.

I did home securities systems for 13 years. Customers never sent letters to say they don't want our services anymore. Even major commercial types. They just called other sevices and we never heard from them again.

The letters from the J dubs were cruel, and intended to be that way. IMO.

    Lenny,

I had wondered how your letter writing panned out. I was saddened to see what I expected came true.

Keep your spirits up. You are so much better off now than you were then.

    Lenny,

This is sadly not surprising. How very immature of them. But it sadly proves the point that most if not all friendships, relationships (even parental and spousal) created in the organization are totally conditional upon the towing of the party line - no matter how much that changes, fluctuates, etc. You simply must not even question, much less voice any doubt.

what a half life they lead for the most part.

Thank goodness you did not have a huge client base in the organization.

So you have about $160,000 gross reciepts in a year. That's sounds like you have a pretty good business.

Not very strong contracts...were the "reasons" listed in the contract? Legally are they still obligated. If they are, I would make them honor them. Nothing makes jws sit up and take notice than to be pay for their legal crime by paying more than they owed in the first place. Treat them just like you would your non-jw customers.
