I know plenty of elders that have buisnesses and emply other witnesses, interesting it was said at the last cicuit assembly "building up treasures in heaven" the need to keep things simple and was not the time to go into a buisiness career, interestingly that is nothing new been saying that for yonks...my point elders have buisnesses but we are encouraged not to they don't listen but need the ever trusting publisher to work for them. how hypocritical is that, also wonder how many wont leave the truth in fear of losing their witness customers.
JW are vindictive, since I stopped going to meetings all those I got jobs for don't speak with me. I remenber an Elder who was DF and employed about 6 brother all quit and still have not found job but yet, they blame him!
Sorry to hear this Lenny, but also very heartened that you didn't base your business prospects on the "friends" who are, in reality, no friends at all.
Surely you can recapture the monetary loss with worldly clients who require and respect your security services and don't give a rat's ass about religious affiliation.

P.S.: I'm with Blondie about obligating them to any contracts in place. Use the courts if you must.
Not to depress you, Lenny, but here is the account of a brother and his family in California that was df'd and lost all his customers. Moved to Oregon to start over, and killed himself and his family. It is good you planned ahead.

Thanks to those who took the time to comment and to those who haven't commented but took the time to read this. Technically, I could legally squeeze more money from a few of them, but I'm really not interested in that. The one who cancelled today, really is obligated through next May, but I will write her back and just let her know I'm sorry for her decision and that I am forgiving her the balance of her contract. I just don't want to leave any of them with anything to hold against me. I don't care about the money. And I'm not vindictive. Maybe one day they'll see the contrast. Maybe not. I just don't want any of their karma.
Yes, Blondie, I'm aware of that horribly tragic account. And I know there have been other former JWs who have suffered financial hardship or ruin as a consequence of businesses built largely on JW clientele. There's an inactive "brother" here who is a chiropractor and maybe 60% of his clients are witnesses. No wonder he hasn't DA'd. He knows the true WT story.
Lenny, I would then send a formal notice saying that you have forgiven them legally what they owe you monetarily. It will be proof that you were indeed the loving one.

Sorry Lenny to hear this.
My husband was encouraged while we were studying w/a couple to go into a gas station business w/him (our BS conductor) This "brother" kept putting him off for a written contract and we trusted him as a "brother". We were new in the organization and believed we wouldn't be screwed over. What a HUGE MISTAKE! Since all that happened, I have heard of other horror stories of people working for witnesses. Quite a few have shady business practices to say the least and some are elders.
During this time of employment w/this "brother", it set us behind big time monetarily even though my husband was working a lot of hours. We had no health insurance and the idiot gave my husband a hard time when he had to come home to take me to the hospital for the birth of our second son.
I'm happy that you posted this warning for others.

Sorry to hear that lenny. The letters that you sent was both the most powerfull denounciation against the borg one could use to notify his 'friends' and it was a must read for all planing on turning in a DA letter. Those letter should be a sticky in the best of section.
I know it wasn't all that surprising for you, Lenny. But it's a kind of freedom to get it out there and see how everyone behaves. Now you can be yourself, with no apologies and no hiding. Good for you!
Hugs,
Nina
