The exchange of psychological energies between individuals or groups of individuals and a sense that one is in touch and part of the collective s/he belongs to and the world in general. The opposite of feeling cut off from psychic energy sources and companionship.

Good question, nvr. Discover for yourself the connectedness of everything and "meaning" falls to the wayside. "It is as it is" without any intermediary putting labels and judgment on "what is". It is that intermediary to wholeness (the separate sense of self, the "personal") that describes it as peaceful and fulfilling and makes expressions about it in terms like "do unto others".

But unfortunately, all descriptions fall short and minds continue to struggle to grasp something that is always out of reach because it transcends mind altogether. And yet there are those you continue to point to it because therein lies the answer to all of humanity's search for meaning - now ain't THAT ironic? To find "meaning" one must go to where "meaning" doesn't arise! That's the paradox, the mystery, the delight of finding connectedness with everything.

In my previous quote make that read: "And yet there are those who continue..." (sure wish I could make edits)

Kinda like "it" being both emptiness and fullness.

    Hey there!

I am going to over simplify personal inter-connectedness. It reminds me of the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" where Gearge Bailey gets to see what the world would be like if he never existed. We all affect people/things more than we are aware of.

As far as universal inter-connectedness...hmmmm...we'll have to rely on the many brilliant posters here for that one.

    Thanks for the hyphen BFD!

I think all you have to do is expand what you said about personal connection and you've begun to explain the universal as well.

"Kinda like "it" being both emptiness and fullness."

That which you are is completely empty, and only by virtue of this complete emptiness is fullness possible. This universal emptiness can be FELT only through the expression of what APPEARS to be the personal, and through that appearance fullness is realized - connectedness/oneness/wholeness is then realized to be the underlying reality of everything. Then "love thy neighbor as thyself" makes sense.
