to me I've come to learn that the grand, limitless universe that we see when we look up is also contained right inside of me. when I meditate the vastness of what is inside me is hard to describe with words. it just *is*
Humans have a subconscious connection to all other humans, primarily, but also to the animals, the earth, the sun, and the rest of the universe and beyond. Think of it like a phone system that is always on in the subconscious. The way to be able to see what is going on is to put the conscious mind, ego, etc to sleep, and then,,, just be aware.
Existence and communication then becomes natural and true in the deepest sense, the filters having been removed, you are now "tuned" to the other and to all. Temporarily. The phone then flashes an incoming call as the world is waiting.

Did anyone hear about the experiment conducted a few years ago. It was reported in New Scientist...
New Scientist vol. 170 issue 2287 - 21 April 2001, page 24
Basically the gist is that a scientist - Andrew Newberg - got to do what we all dream of doing - getting a nun to inject herself with a radioactive tracer whilst deep in prayer !
He was monitoring the brain activity when the nuns felt that they had "connected" with God.
He also did this with a group of Buddhists as they meditated.
The results showed that blood was restriced to the parts of the brain that control the ego.
So basically, as the individual ego (I am) shut down, it allowed a connection with the greater "I AM".
However, these results could also be used to show that a connection with God is merely a trick that the mind plays on us when it is deprived of oxygen.
That's what's great - it is still a matter of faith !
