"There was a talk at my sister's hall where they were told to write down their top 5 friends. then they were to see what those friends could do for them spiritually."

I did this in 2002; the elders, the GB, the DO and CO were in the top 5, but were gutting my spirituality.

So I did the wise thing: I cut them out of my life.

Well, brothers, what a change I saw!

I no longer feel the need to get up Saturday morning and tell people about a Jesus they already know about; I don't have to duck questions about child sex abuse, I no longer have to fear really strong evidence of evolution, I no longer fear sinning against the holy spirit.

Best of all, I can dry my hands with TWO towels if I have to sit through another convention day.

The change in my spirituality was astonishing!

The best advice I EVER heard at a meeting.

    Hi candidlynuts,

Not much comfort but your avatar is cute as! I am really sorry that you have to deal with this through your children. I don't have any myself so cannot feel what you feel but my brother has had similar problems with his own children and I know the pain he has had. I am sure I will post his story one day in this forum as it's one that makes you want to go postal as they say in the US, but all we hope is one day they wake up and see who actually has love for them.

    Take care

I am sorry to read that. It makes me happy that I have no jw relatives.

if there IS a god, no offense to believers here but i find him unworthy of worship in any form.

I don't believe in god myself, but I agree with you - if he does
exist, and is anything slightly resembling the watchtower
version, he isn't worth the time of day.

What they are desperately trying to do is make sure that everybody is only associating with active JWs. They are paranoid as hell about active JWs hearing about any of their hidden dirt and then leaving the religion.

The sad part is if any JW takes this advice to heart and stops being friends with anybody who doesn't fit the narrow criteria of the religion, they will have the rug pulled out from under them at some later date when they ever question anything about the religion. Then they will see all their conditional "friends" disappear overnight.

I have a JW aunt who communicates regularly with her DA'd sister (my mother) and even me, the notorious apostate of the family. In the past we noticed how her phones calls and e-mails stopped for a few weeks right after the summer DAs. But not this year. She seems to be completely ignoring the shunning program.
