Feed the Poor or Help the WT? (Mt 25:40 Christ's "Brothers")

To me that is the major clue that the WTS is not the true Christian religion that got chosen by god to serve him on earth. It shows that all these claims are hollow and that all those babylonian religions are nearer to the true path than the JWs because at least they take seriously the need to be charitable just like the early church was which the JWs supposedly faithfully copy.

If we think of them as a commercial enterprise then it makes perfect sense why they loath charity so much, because it will reduce their profiting which is their real objective. Money will leave tehir coffers and go to needy individuals a horrifying idea for the businessmen directing it.

They say "oh the money goes on a more worthy objective the global preaching work" but who believes that?

Let me hit you with the one word that makes all the difference in this parable:

    Strangers!

The "brothers of Christ" are strangers to the "sheep" and also to the world. The whole point of Jesus parable is to show kindness to all people

because you don't know their real identity in God's eyes. This parable was desperately needed in the 1st century because life in the Roman

Empire was ( usually) short and brutal. The Watchtower Society has completely perverted the meaning of the story and twisted it into almost

the exact opposite of what Jesus intended. He was trying to promulgate generousity among all men but the Watchtower has distorted this

beautiful text into supporting their narrow, separatist and cultish mentality.

Try using this scripture on any JW and see how far you get. I have used it several times when discussing 'field service' . JWS will clam up and try to get away from the subject as fast as they can. God forbid that you might actually help someone in need. It is a case of using only the scriptures that please you.

While you all make good points, let us be clear. JW's don't shy away from this scripture. They put the
JW spin on it. They establish what the scripture means, according to the WTS, and don't change the
    subject.

The best thing you can do to help someone in need is to teach them that this is a temporary situation
they find themselves in, we weren't meant to live imperfect lives. Serve Jehovah and his son, serve
Christ's "brothers" with aid, and you will be showing kindness to Christ, himself. This means that we
must help the anointed to preach the word, by selling WT literature, and fulfill the scripture, then we
will be teaching the needy to cope during this temporary situation with a hope for the better life to come.

Simple. Sell magazines and books- this is much more important than the temporary aid of food, clothing,
or shelter. Those things are not going to lead someone to everlasting life.

Along those lines, when the topic of persecution comes up (JW's like to feel they are persecuted for their beliefs), I commiserate with them. Yes, life can be such a trial for witnesses. But at least you can hope for relief when the "end of the current system" finally gets here. Then I turn to Isaiah 58 as something I've read on what Jehovah says is a way how we can have a good and blessed life NOW:

(NIV translation here...The whole chapter is good, but here are the verses dealing with the topic)
6 "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. "If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.
11 The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

    Hey everybody,

    Thanks for all your thoughts.

I take it the general consensus is that Christ's "brothers" are ANY of the downtrodden on this planet, whether they claim to be Christian or not.

That's how I always read it as a kid.

Thank you very much for the link, Narkissos.

    I've just started reading it.

Thanks to all long term JWD members for helping us newer ones find older threads.

Maybe, but not nearly as effective.

Practically I could find the thread because I started it -- and I don't start many.

There is a wealth of lost information on this site for the lack of a specific search function. Btw, I really wonder why the Google search doesn't work better on the JWD archives. I have searched for posts with specific keywords I know were used and they don't appear.
