Stevie Ray Vaughan for sure. Keith Moon and John Bohnam to a degree. Princess Di, so tragic.
Vince Lombardi: I remember the day it was on the morning news, all channels, and my mom was furious that that was all that was being talked about. Or so it seemed to her. Anyways, she stomped, marched, stormed over to the TV and WHAM!! smacked the on/off knob - no remotes in those days kiddies - and shouted "HE'S JUST A MANNNNNN!!!" That attitude was more of a shock to me though. Yep, I remember it like it was yesterday. -

Ronald Reagan, even though he was old and it was expected. I grew up in the 1980's and when he passed away it was like my childhood went with it. Even though I wasnt old enough to vote back then, I was a democrat at first, then I switched in my high school years.
It was hard to keep a dry eye when I learned of his passing. -

Princess Di - my very instant reaction to that announcement was that she was murdered. I don't follow all the various conspiracy reports - I'm just certain that it was murder, call it sixth sense or whatever, the truth will out some day...
Also John Lennon and Brandon Lee - so unusual and untimely

James Herriot. He's the only "famous" person I've ever grieved for.

If anyone here has worked in an American sales office, then you will agree with me that Vince Lombardi is a bigger pain in the ass now that he's dead, and taken on Valhalla warrior status.
You see, a lot of jocks tend to gravitate towards the Sales dept, the more successful ones get into management, then the whole thing becomes a "Sales TEAM" and then here come the Lombardi-isms:"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing!" and "If we don't win, that's ok, as long as you played your best. And that means I better see broken bodies all over the field as proof that you played your best!"
If you Europeans want to know why American culture is so "Win at all costs" driven, look no further than Lombardi.
