Why go when you can get the short version here. Where is it being held in IL? Is it in Rockford again? I know that they keep changing the location and ever since the race track they have been unable to keep a location.
This year it in Bloomington, IL halfway between Chicago & St. Louis
I have yet to decide to go or not...most likely not.
There are quite a few at the U in DeKalb this year...not going though.
I've got a sister in Bloomington! She will be going there I imagine. She lives in Ellsworth town of 300.
There are quite a few at the U in DeKalb this year...not going though. Know of someone who went there. About 5000 in attendance and the a/c worked good. Otherwise it was the usual drone. But if you have to/want to go; just saying.
ever since the race track they have been unable to keep a location.
I thought the Hawthorne Race Track was one of the worst - Didn't a sister "own" that location? Couldn't see a dang thing through the dirty window and it was just plain dirty and smelly. Before that had them at the White Sox stadium in Chicago. I remember the bus rides down there. ARGH! And the outdoor toilets and long lines. Another ARGH! Then Cicero, Illinois w/the bullet holes in the hotel windows. Yikes! Before these sites they were held at the Milwaukee County Stadium (now Miller Park Stadium)for years. Then good old Madison, Wisconsin. But they haven't had any there for years. Now the district I would be in goes to DeKalb. Before that it was Rockford, Illinois. Juni ( is this more info than you wanted? Sorry.)
LDB and I went to the Hawthorne race track one!!! It was miserably hot. I was about 3-4 months pregnant at the time and thought I was going to hurl about 80% of the time. But being a good witness, I stuck it out until Sunday around lunch time. I couldn't take it anymore and we left. That was AWFUL!!!
Oh, I so wish I could go. But I already had plans to stick needles in my eyes, and under my fingernails.
Yeah, I went to the last one they had in Madison back in 2003. The next two were in Rockford. This year's would've been in Green Bay where they used to have them in the late 70's/early 80's before moving them to Madison. The good ole days. Then good old Madison, Wisconsin. But they haven't had any there for years.
Yes, they had them at the race track the big one Hawthorne and Sportsman. Those are the ones I was raised w/. I went 1/2 a day to the one at the Cell (what use to be called Comiskey Park). My friends and I showed up late, sat really far up in the bleachers and then left early. I actually like the ones at the race track because I would sneak out and go to where the horses were housed and taken out for their daily jaunts. Also, I love the heat, so it was never an issue for me. Remember the "Gold Cup" room. That was where everyone wanted to sit and would get there early to save seats.
I was allowed free reign at the assemblies and would sit with friends. We learned how to place our bibles on the arm rests and lean on then so we could take naps. We also loved to spy on others. We knew a lot of the guys walking around (you know holding the signs that say "take your seat" or "be quiet") and we would stand around talking to them.
Granted that being said, I would never go back to 2 days of listening to people drone on about how to hate everyone else and how we are superior to everyone else. Reminds me too much of white supremacists and their rants.
