So I am at home by myself. My active JW wife is in town.

I hear an engine running out front and peek through a window. Some car I don't recognise. Wait for a knock but it doesnt come. I open the door to see what gives and there on my door in plain sight by the way of anyone who cares to see (A no no I thohught) a tract inviting me to travel 200 miles to the DC in San Fracisco.

Now most of the time we don't get visits because my wife is well known in the cong. and they arent out there to visit but to count time. Anyway there they are not even knocking but just tip toeing to the front door leaving thes pieses of crap invitations.

That would have been my kind of field service when I was a dub...just go around and leave things and not even have to talk to a householder yet feel like I was doing my sacred service.

They go to extraordinary lenghts to avoid speaking to people while preaching.

That's funny. Many people on this forum reported this happening when the false religion tract campaign was under way. It appeared that many JWs were afraid of confrontations, so they opted for the covert route; which was humorous. It reminded me of the way the allied forces would drop leaflets into cities during WWII before a bombing run. I think that's how JWs may have viewed it as well - warn the goats to get out of the harlot's clutches before the battle ensues.

The tracts were delivered to the 'public' here - invites to the assembly which is 50 miles away. Lol - like any member of the public would travel that far, when they won't even drive one mile to local KH.

when the False Religion tract came out, I always presented it back side up...the positive spin of the message. I thought the front with the 72pt BOLD font with the lightning was waaay over the top and alarmist. So I always showed them the message on back. I did not show scriptures, I did not engage in discussion, it was simply: "This is an important Bible based message being presented around the world this month...this is your copy." I think householders were so shocked that we were not putting our foot in the door (so to speak) that we were long gone by the time they recovered from the shock.

My non JW brother calls this "Guerilla Witnessing". Although he has a FT management job, he from time to time works PT at a gas station, just to get out of the house and do something different. He said a carload of Dubs will pull up, go to the counter, give him a mag, and be gone before he can ask them something (he once wanted to ask when the Memorial was, but they were already gone...so he did not go).. my other non JW brother, who goes to college and worked PT at a gas station (another state), said the same thing happened to him.....

I told them, that's the way I did early morning service.....quick strike method. They asked "what's the point of that?" I said "Exactly"..then explained that it was not REALLY about preaching the message...the message is BULLSH*T.,...its about HOURS and PLACEMENTS.....and RECRUITING.....kind of like MLM....the PRODUCT is not emphasized, its the RECRUITMENT...and no one wants to go door to door, so they do these "alternate" (aka lazy) methods of ministry to attract publishers to put in more time.

Nothing has changed in all the decades I have been in the Truth Lie. Its why I dont bother going out in service anymore

(and Congrats to me.... UNOFFICIALLY, I am INACTIVE as of July 1st...I have not been door to door in 6 months...although I still turn in a couple hours phantom time to keep them off my back)

It's a smart way to get over the compulsion, the psychological pressure placed on the JWs to go out and preach the WTS gospel. They don't owe anything to the cult so as to spend their time and energy for promoting its interests.

Not as lazy as my personal favourite, which was driving to the most distant house in the territory and then not going in because they're not home if their car is out the front. Then driving to the other side of the territory.

Before the 1950's, the WTS had many ways to "spread the news." One was to flood a neighborhood with tracts without knocking, just slipping under the door (many times in areas where jws are banned). I see a need for that tactic. I'm sure if you talked to the jw who left the tract they would say the end is near and he/she has to reach the most people in the time remaining.

Then Knorr started the TMS (theocractic ministry school) and trained people to give sermons at the door and have Bible (WT book) studies with people.

But things are regressing including long-time jws not inclined to read the publications themselves so give a generic, fits all presentation or none at all.

Same thing happened to us. When the False Religion tract was been handed out we saw the JW walking up our street. We couldn't wait for them to knock at the door so we could ask them a few questions. The youg man knocked gave his presentation my husband replied "Oh good we've heard about this tract and were wondering when we would get our copy." He smiled said thank you and left as fast as possible. I could not believe it. If a householder reacted like that when I was still putting in time I would have been happy to chat. Seems like they would rather just place whatever they have and run.
