Why are so many memories related to physical disciple

Parents beat the shit out of there kids in order to get them to be still during the meetings, I remember jw moms always boasting about how worldly people would compliment them for such well behaved kids...if those worldly people only knew the pain....

Children were not intended to be made to sit still for a 2+ hour bore-fest, I also take issue with the weekday meeting end time of after 9pm, kids should be in bed at a decent hour so that they can be well rested for school the next day.

To answer the post question directly, I started out as a publisher in April 1963, at age 15. That was the month when JW's hit the million mark worldwide. The family who studied with me had a Catholic newspaper in which there was an article about there being a million witnesses. I remember the article being very matter-of-fact, not derogatory, angry or decrying any fact.

I met a scientologist at the door that day. He scared me a little; i.e., he looked scary to me. He told me that Scientology was the fastest growing movement in the world. I should've listened, and now I could be hobnobbing with Lisa Marie Presley and John Travolta.

As far as the so-called "discipline," it just shows why JW's and others who were beaten for no good reason are so screwed up. We were beaten for no good reason, so all we learned was not to pi** off people with power over us, not discernment of good and bad, right and wrong. So we became fearful, "good" little weirdos without a clue!

    Regards,

    you are so right!

do you remember a demonstration at one of the conventions on how to train little kids to sit still for two hours? The mom started by making them sit still for a few minutes every day, and she gradually added minutes until, at home, they could sit still for two hours. Now that I look back on that, it seems crazy and abusive. Poor kids had to sit still for two hours at home and then go to a f***ing meeting and sit still for two hours more. What I remember most about meetings as a kid was the mind-numbing boredom. So boring you might almost want to gouge your eyes out for distraction.

A memory that keeps coming back to me is the couple that came to study with my parents. A friend of mine and me would be in my room and we would write on this chalk board that we wanted them to study with us too! The lady would come in our room and study the childrens book before the my book of bible story book and would also share Listening to the great teacher. I loved studying and learning about God. Too bad jw's had to meet me first....

It was a 30 minute drive to the KH, I was 3 or 4. My dad wasn't a witness yet, and he worked nights. We had to hitch a ride with a fat slob "brother" and his 5 year old fat brat son. His wife was fading. (I just figured that out) She divorced his butt within about 3 years of this.

At the meetings, he was great fun to sit behind. He would always be messing with his kid, pinching him, and pulling his hair, just messing with him. When the kid would let out a yelp, dad would look around and grin real big. (barf)

He would stop on the way home, and buy his son a Nestle Crunch bar. The kid always sat in the front with his dad, and he would eat it going home. I never asked for one, I knew we couldn't afford it. Was never offered a bite either.

I was 4 years old, and the KH was a converted church building. There was a long stairway to the door, and I remember it being very high and lots of steps. It wasn't, but that was my memory.

One of the teenagers in the congregation was the most handsome "man" I had ever seen. I fell instantly in love, at 4. He passed away a couple of years ago, Alzheimer's. He had grown up real fine, married a great gal, they went to Gilead, then Korea, came back pregnant, had two sons, and their eldest went to Gilead and is now a CO in South America somewhere.

    Those are my first memories.

My husband had that demonstration and talk at one of the district conventions forever ago. He used one of the sisters in our cong. that had four kids, including twins, and added one of our sons.

My parents let me sleep at the KH and I was never spanked for anything. I was very shy and probably would have cried if I did anything wrong. I tried hard to be good. Mom said "children should be in bed at that hour, so let them sleep".

Mom used to let me sleep on the floor :P .

    Those are my FONDEST memories.

I also remember the day she stopped me doing that. And I wasn't allowed to sleep on the floor since...

Also, I remember throwing up on the chair, and getting in trouble because they thought I was faking sick....

Because a 6 year old knows that when you stick your finger in your throat, you might throw up (I didn't at the time :P ) . Btw, I wasn't faking :P .

I have a foggy memory of being in a subway station, and my mom was carrying me, and I pulled on her beads, and they broke and fell all over the floor. This was at a convention. Another memory, was going with my mom on a Bible study, and getting stuck in the elevator--it was one of those old self-operating ones and they got stuck a lot and you could see a lot of the hardware on the doors--real scarey.

Hey, Mum--you must be about the same age as I am!!! Yay!
