I drink Sangria for theraputic reasons, it is full of Riboflavins, so they say.
But I gravitate towards beer.

Confession
For a couple of years now I have favored big, bold Red Zinfandels. Nice bite, nice balance, full flavored, and--when the grapes come from those old, gnarly California vines--they have a nose and character I truly love. "Four Vines' Maverick" 2003/04(?) was faboo; I still have a few bottles of it. The "Earthquake Zin" you find in stores is excellent too.
My girlfriend introduced me to the Joseph Phelps' Cabernet (also California.) Very nice.
I find Port is best when making love... I don't ordinarily like sweet wines, but somehow the rich sweetness of the Port can be balanced by the alcoholic strength of it.
I don't ordinarily care for the sweeter white wines. A certain friend always tries to get me to like them, but only one has made any positive impression: it was either called Edna Hill or Edith Hill (a Chardonnay.) I'm a relative newcomer to wine drinking--especially whites--but this is the only one I've found with a character I found worthwhile.

Narkissos,
I agree very much with you about southern cheap decent french wines because a marked effort has been made to improve them in the last 30 years, growers must just keep doing so to match the taste of the new generations who otherwise will turn to other mediterranean wines. I prefer Aquitaine wines to Languedoc, but it could be just for cultural reasons and also because some doctors reckon they are better for health.
