No need to hurry...they have to report hours...so if they finish their territory quick then they wan't place the needed hours. Remember is hours that they are after, not people...

Not only do they walk quite slowly, but they take those long breaks when they finish a side. At least they did back before 2004, when I basically called it quits because the Feb 2004 Kingdumb Misery insinuated that they were going to have to pick up the pace drastically and cut out all the breaks (or at least that's what I got out of it).

I liked seeing them sitting in the car to warm up. I would be warm enough, but I would sit there anyways because I didn't like going to the doors. It did eat up time that I would otherwise have had to spend peddling this stupid message. And I used to let the heat out of the car so it would take even longer to warm up.

For sure, this is not what I call a determined effort to complete the territory in a reasonable time. I have seen the mailman walking briskly to put the mail in the boxes, and they do not waste inordinate amounts of time on coffee breaks or dallying at a corner. They also dress appropriately. In hot weather, they usually have shorts (and I haven't yet seen one get led into fornication just from having too much leg showing in that weather). When it's freezing, they don't go around with a skirt and high heels. They wear appropriate clothing that allows them to work without undue time spent warming up or cooling off. And they don't have to do 160 MPH from street to street--yet they seem to get their whole route completed on time. That's more than can be said about the Witlesses.

thats typical jw behaviour. pioneers mastered slow walking and visiting distant door-to-door witnessing.
its in my opinion one of the most impressive proof how "urgent" the message actually is :|

funny, that the JWs are also "united" in this behaviour world wide :-)

    i always hated that acting.

if the message were so wonderful and life in spiritual paradise so beautiful, WHY do we need a talk about "looking happy" in field service any other day?

if we learned the truth by honest bible study from the bible itself and its actually OUR belief and not the belief of a doctrine dictating organization, WHY do so many talks remind us to tell the householder that it is YOUR belief and not the belief of JWs...?

    PopeofEruke:

I remember seeing that real slow walk. The whole thing is just stupid to me. If their message was really urgent it would be better to broadcast it.

They won't do that because it will do away with their need to distribute printed material and also because they would have no "control" over the people in the religion. They want to see visible works. That way they can "judge" you.

It's all about control no matter what anybody says.

I love the word "saunter" - it would seem that for a JW to saunter they would have to pick up their pace considerably. Maybe with our collective heads we could come up with a word that is befitting the "JW shuffle".

if there's any sense of urgency left, it's in the headlong race to the coffee shop; my wife told me that when she went out in the DTD with the Circuit Overseer, he and his wife suggested a coffee break, one that lbegan within minutes of the departure from the KH and lasted for more than an hour! Nor is this an exception. I'm told.

They must be thinking that they warned people so many times that one additional time isn't that urgent.

And the coup de grace: Sipping your latte in cushioned comfort, you can still count your time!

POE, good point. Yes, why the urgency to preach? Personally, I enjoyed the ministry, I've meet many kind people, I never forced or pressured anyone to accept the literature. I've met many kind and lonely people who welcomed me in and we just chatted about life in general. The 1975 expectation never impressed me one bit. Mine you, I'm from a different era plus sports played a major part in my thinking.

It's not about saving lives, it's about getting a few hours a month and continuing being part of the social club.

We all know that once you stop preaching and becoming inactive, you are weak and to be avoided as bad association.

If the dubs truly beleived in the last days most of them would be pioneering and saving lives day and night.
