Social Influence: Are You An Individual Or One Of The Crowd?

The Watchtower Society exerted enormous pressure on us to behave according to their norms.
Having an individual viewpoint and perspective on matters isolated an individual within the
    organization—I know this firsthand.

    The “In Crowd”

If you belong to one of the various syndicate’s (believer, atheist ), can you take a stand for
what you believe in even though it may not be popular with the “in crowd.”

In other words, are you an individual or one of the crowd? Explain.

    Respectfully,

    Richard

Individual, have never been a follower. I guess that's why I left the BORG when I was 18, didn't want other people making decisions for me.

I'm also a loner, I enjoy be alone reading mostly.

    Trying to simply be.

But, as they say, no man is an island.

I think you will be hard pushed to find someone that calls themselves a follower. Everyone is different, everyone thinks they're different. So we are all the same. Another one of life's little jokes. Like the meaning of life? : There isn't one.

The thing is, we all consider ourselves as different, but we all tend to look for people that are similar, to create a friendship/partnership/community with. That's why we are here isn't it? It's when we consider others to be just followers, and hence we being different/special or apart from that 'crowd' that we cause problems for ourselves and others. Communities work well, when we are glad that everyone else is different to us, we accept them for who they are, and accept ourselves as who we are, and still want to be part of that crowd!

From Terri "part of the crowd and different and the same and other stuff too!" Yay!

Individual, the only one who can influence me is my wife. I will take her into consideration and consult with her on all matters, likewise her with me for 40 years!

When we were with the Watchtower, in the early years, when I was in awe of some the anointed that I was close with, I went with the crowd , suppressing my individuality. Later as I got my feet grounded, my individuality came to the fore. So, now I am a full - fledged individual.

I do as I please. I'm not one who makes decisions based solely on the majority view . On a social basis, I'm usually a crowd pleaser.

Individual. i'm not the norm compared to what people think is normal. my thoughts and ideas are my own and i sometimes get in deep discussions about them with others because they are not the norm. but on some points i choose to think and believe the way others do. so i guess a little of both.
