It is difficult to help decide what to do or say, when we don't know this guy and what his motives are. If he was a friend in the past, he may actually care.
I would say proceed with caution, but talking might open doors that might not exist now.

I would write him a kind card and thank him and tell him that if he really wants to help you he will explain these things to you:
Sincerely,
Lady Liberty
BF23,
I think that's a perfect response. Please let us know if he responds. If he already knows you were DF'ed for apostasy and is reaching out to you, I wonder if he's having questions too?
Either way, you left it on a positive note.
I think back fondly on all of our good days working together at Stream, hanging out together and in theocratic activities.
I swear every JW who was in IT worked for Stream.
@Lady Libert - Brilliant! Your questions are just genius!
The last thing a JW want to hear is that you are doin' well out of the Org
I bet my last dollar that "friend " is gonna use you as an example
I can imagine him sayin' " your marriage split cause you turn your back on Jehovah"
Trust, friendships are conditional in the Org. Don't be surprised if your name is
diced, sliced and fried in the congregation. Anyway I wish you well in your future endeavors :)
