"The Sound of Music" not theocratic enough?

One of the local congregations is having a farewell "concert" for their CO who's leaving. Zzzzzz

Of course, the book study conductor felt obligated to take control by appointing himself screener of all performances before the event (how shocking! ) Those in attendance weren't beating down the door to volunteer, but one child very eagerly volunteered to sing a song ... the farewell song from The Sound of Music (you all know it right?) After thinking for a few moments the book study conductor chimed in ... "Hmmm, you may have to modify it a bit"

What's wrong with the song as is? We began to wonder whether he even knew the song.

    You mean this song?

There's a sad sort of clanging
From the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too,
And up in the nurs'ry an absurd little bird
Is popping out to say "coocoo".

    Regretfully they tell us,
    But firmly they compel us
    To say goodby to you.

So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, good night,
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, adieu,
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu.

So long, farewell, Au'voir, auf wiedersehen,
I'd like to stay and taste my first champagne
So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye,
    Good bye

    I'm glad to go,
    I cannot tell a lie.
    I flit, I float,
    I fleetly flee, I fly.

The sun has gone to bed and so must I
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
    Goodbye,
    Goodbye,
    Goodbye!

It is obvious - the song doesn't mention the GB once!

And the bells in the steeple too,

Duh the word "steeple" would have to be changed to "watchtower"

    It's that reference to "steeple".

Also -- those cuckoo clocks -- you know wooden birds can't sing, they must be demonized !!

Well, as you recall, the movie is about a nun who becomes a governess.

Might stumble someone. Someone mentally challenged. Which would include everyone in attendance.

It might stumble someone, and that little kid and the parents will be bloodguilty!

hmmm...It could also be this reference to alcohol. This might cause some dub to start drinking, which would then lead to them becoming an alcoholic.

    Yup, definately a demonic song!

Would have to be expounded on: "unless it's theocratic warfare"

What an asshole of the first order. We did this very song at a congregation party years ago. Me and one of the other sisters got 7 kids together, we dressed them up as the Von Trapp children and they came over and practiced for 3 weeks getting the steps and words right. No one said anything about 'modifying' it. It sounds as though the BS conductor is just looking for any excuse not to have it.
