Beautiful! You have a real talent for cake decorating!

And I noticed your comment on King Arthur- they are a great resource and are extremely high quality- worth the extra price for sure! Of course, I'm a bit prejudiced given that I grew up near their retail store and had ready access to develop a continued addiction to their products.

My 4 year old is looking over my shoulder and told me he wants that cake for his next birthday party because it looks so yummy.

    Awwww! Now that's a compliment!

I am not being nice, I am being brutally honest. For a first cake, that is almost perfection!

    Thank you!

All of you are so very sweet! I never expected to get 3 pages of compliments! Talk about support. You guys are amazing.

I made another cake last night. The plain icing is on it and I'll decorate it tonight in cake class. The icing went on smoother with less crumbs. There are a few but not near as many as the last cake. And its much smoother. You guys will be proud!

Your designs are brilliant renee - and the colour combinations too.

The edging is spot on this time - but I see a few bumps in the side - keep practising, you'll get it Here's an idea, I don't know if it works with icing though - check with your tutor - how about slightly colouring your icing, probably with a bit of blue or yellow? (you'd need to be VERY careful if the overall effect you want is 'white' otherwise it'll go to baby blue/yellow or just look dirty!). My reasoning is that most of the unwanted bumps won't be as prominent (you know how some tiny things are more noticeable on white?!)

    Whaddya think?

Yeah, I'm trying to make a business out of this. This is something I know I can do. But only having done two cakes -- I have a LOT of practicing left to do.

I'm going to have to stick with white because I want to do wedding cakes. When I do a real wedding cake, I can cover things up with icing decorations.-- the smooth icing won't be such a big deal. But I have to practice practice on the decorations. Lots of that to do before its perfect. I can't expect to be an expert over night. If it was too easy to learn to do, everyone would be doing their own cakes and there wouldn't be any point in me learning how.
