people who, whereupon exiting thier automobile in a parking lot, feel the need to frantically kick their cars doors open right into yours, leaving nice little dents for you to fix. Drives me NUTS!!!

Major pet peeve for me? That would be table manners, most notably when someone insists on letting everyone at the table have an all-access pass to view whatever it is they are currently chewing. I only inflict my neurotic sensitivity on my children though.

That would be followed closely by someone digging for nose nuggets outside of the privacy of the bathroom or barring that, if they must dig out a crusty bit in public, doing so without the benefit of a tissue.

There you have it. My secrets laid bare. Was that what you were asking for? Other than that, I'm pretty easy going.

Caligirl - you and Little Drummer Boy should talk about your food manners pet peeve. He is exactly like you in that manner. I must say though, our 9-year-old son already has better table manners than many adults I've eaten with.

Ignorant drivers. I live in an area of the world where people that think they have money think they can drive anywhere, anyhow, and anyway they like. They pass on curves, into oncomong traffic, double and triple pass, speed through school zones...you get the picture.

Well, those uncaring, insensitive, ignorant ass-holes are my pet pieve.

    Today anyhow.

My friends have heard me rant about this - my biggest pet peeve is something not fulfilling its primary function. Scissors should cut, dishwashing machines should wash dishes, vaccuum cleaners should create a vaccuum and use that to clean, etc (the "truth" should actually be truth, lol). Real life examples:

A good many years ago I went to a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant to... well... get some fried chicken. When I stepped up to the cashier to order, she informed me that they were out of chicken. Completely out of chicken. To which I told her that if the product mentioned in the name of the establishment is not on the premesis, its probably a good idea to close the establishment until more comes.

I once ordered a musical score directly from the site that publishes it. They sent it via UPS. The date the package was marked for arrival I was at home all day. At one point, I stepped outside to check the weather, and then 15 minutes later I stepped outside to go check my mail. Well, that's when I noticed the little "We missed you" slip on the door that wasn't there 15 minutes ago. The delivery person didn't even knock on my door for some odd reason. The slip said that they would attempt re-delivery twice more and the dates were marked on the slip. I waited on both dates... but nothing ever came. I e-mailed UPS and the publication site about the incident, and UPS said that I could pick up the package at the local branch. Pick up?? The only function UPS has is delivery, but they want me to come pick up the package. I didn't. The site refunded me the money for the score when it got back to them, and this is the kicker - they refunded the entire price minus the shipping. -.-

My other pet peeve is contractors not on time or not showing up.

It is so bad here in Florida it is almost laughable.

I ordered a new inside air conditioning unit manufactured by Trane. The total bill was $1600.00 plus the high end air filtration unit that cost an extra $300.00. Twice they didn't show up, with no calls made to me.

When they finally showed, I paid the $300.00 for the extra air filtering unit and received a bill showing all paid in full.

Low and behold I have never been billed for the Trane unit. (knock on wood).. its been 18 months.....What a bunch of morons...they can't arrive on schedule or get here as promised. Also they can't make phone calls and apparently lose the bills.

    r.

Musicman, not trying to one-up you here, but a very similar thing happened to me! I had ordered a computer and had to be there to sign for it. I knew the day it was to arrive because I checked the tracking number online. I was waiting most of the day in the living room near the front door, but as soon as I went to the bedroom for a few minutes, what do you know? I heard a noise exactly like that of a UPS truck. I live on a dead end street, so we don't get a lot of traffic. By the time I got to the door (no door bell had sounded, by the way), I saw the back of a brown truck nearing the end of the street and a "we missed you" slip on the door. Grrrrr...I thought to myself "wtf," but waited till the next delivery. No one showed. The exception to your story being just like mine was that after the second delivery "attempt" came and went, I called up the area shipping center to complain, emailed UPS customer service, AND emailed the computer company.

The rep at the computer company called me on the phone and said that sometimes happens because they get behind in their deliveries and just reschedule by sticking the slip on the door and leaving. I kid you not. They had been having other problems with their shipping service as well. The regional manager from UPS called back and then the local shipping center manager called to follow up. I told them what the computer rep told me, and I demanded that the driver come back on a specific day at a specific time to deliver my computer. They repeatedly told me that they couldn't guarantee a specific time, but guess what? The driver came the day I requested and during the hour I asked for.

So, you're not alone in this, MM. Lots of people get hosed by UPS. Oh yeah, I remember now that I also told them I would never use UPS again, and I haven't.

well, I guess what pisses me off most often is the assholes who drive 20 miles an hour in a 55 mile per hour zone, talking on their cell phones, drifting off to the edge of the road and then over-correcting nearly into on-coming traffic. Turn off your god damn cell phones!!! So dangerous - we had a student killed last year who was driving about 60 mph and was distracted just for a second while she picked up her cell phone to answer it - or at least that's what the police figured out. People who are talking on their cell phones are not paying attention to the road!

I like my job as a detention officer. There are good benefits and a retirement plan. I plan on staying there 10 years and retiring. But since there is such a high turn over and the state doesnt want to pay overtime once or twice a month we have to work 16 hour day double shifts. I work 11pm to 7am. I usually sleep from 8 in the morning till 1 or 2 in the afternoon. When they hold me for a double its devastating to be up all night and up all day. I have to work 11 at night till 3 in the afternoon. And have to be back at work by 11pm. That is my pet peeve. Since you asked.
