For those whose pet peeve involved too many items in the 10 items or less line at the supermarket, I very highly reccomend a movie called, Ten Items or Less. It's a wonderful, independent film starring Morgan Friedman in a terrific role.

Now, my pet peeves? I've got a couple.

When driving, it's when people stop when they come to a yield sign - yet there is no traffic!! There is an intersection of three roads on my way to work, and my road merges with one of them. There is a yield sign there, but you can easily see if any traffic is coming in the other lanes and whether or not you're going to have to yield. But I swear, if there is someone ahead of me at the intersection, they will stop at the yield sign then turn around to look over their left shoulder to see if there is any traffic. I've almost rear ended a couple of those idiots there. Christ, it's pretty simple: yield means yield if necessary, stop means stop.

The other pet peeve is to be watching TV with someone, they flick to a new show, you've both been watching it for about 10 seconds, and they start asking you questions about it as though you've been watching it for hours. Both my ex-wife and current partner do it.

Wow. I feel better already. I think I'm going to be a better person after this!

Most car mechanic piss me off because they say we charge so much per hour but they obviously don't keep to it. Eg they charge £25 per hour they do a 15 minute job and charge you £30 for labour.

When questioned they say: oh we charge that on a tarrif per work done regardless of time. In some countries they have to follow strictly their hourly rate charged in 6 minute increments eg a 15 minute job would be charged as 18 minutes, on £25 per hour that would be 18/60 X 25 = £7.50. Not £30.

Automated call systems. They drive me nearly over the edge. I just keep hitting 0 until i get a human. Some systems are fixed so this trick will not work.

    Go to http://www.gethuman.com/us/

and check it out. they will tell you how to get by most automated systems.

Thanks Quentin! I have a fairly new kitten with a temporary name 'cause I couldn't think of a good one. Now I'm going to name him Peeve. :)

Heheheh...as good a name for a cat as any...

I dont go 'over the edge' because it is not that crucial but it does rub me wrong when a person gives their 'opinion' on a subject in such a way that it seems like they expect everyone to feel the way they do and if people dont then they must be ignorant or stupid. It seems so demeaning. As if that person feels they are right no matter what. As if they dont understand it is ONLY their opinion or belief. That whole giving an 'opinion' with some kind of misplaced 'authority' just reminds me of the JW way of doing things and it's quite a bit repelling to me.

Companies who try to infringe on my personal privacy. I recently had a cashier demand that I present my drivers license when making a purchase with my credit card. I refused. Then last week I made an online software purchase. I received several phone calls and emails from the company saying that I needed to send them a copy of my passport in order to complete the transaction. Naturally, I refused. My beef is that I should be made aware of such "policies" BEFORE they take my credit card number, not half way through a transaction.

I hate it when people call in for tech support and don't listen to the advice given. If they know what the issue is than why call me.

    Loosie,

some of my favorite people are tech support. they totally taught me how to do basic stuff with my computer. Years ago(when the net was new), you could call any of the on line services and they would even help you reinstall Windows. Seriously, I started with 1-800-be a geek and then went to AOL. they have taught me everything I know. I have actually spent 2-3 hours on-line with them helping me reinstall windows, and even more complicated stuff.

    yeah for tech support.

I hate it when end users call me, the network administrator, directly. They claim that the helpdesk people are too stupid to help them. Then they ask me why they can't scan a document by holding it up to their monitor.

ooooooo... the perfect thread to post my newest pet peeve ...... Airlines that cancel your flight an hour before it is scheduled to leave w/o any warning or anyone to help assist you in finding an alternate route ! This just happened to us . We flew into Chicago on an over night flight from California . Plane from Chicago to home was to leave @7am . At 6am it was cancelled . We don't fly alot so we had no clue what to do . I watched a businessman and followed him , that is the only way we would have known how to get on stand by. Ended up renting a car w/him and driving home ! United Airlines sucks in my humble opinion !
