I recently graduated college and earnt my BA. The courses were challenging, and did in fact contribute to my decline in meeting attendance. The exams were rigorous and I had

to study a week in advance.

I did get asked a lot what my schedule was by the elders and I told them there was nothing I could do about it. They just left me alone.

Does college education affect meeting attendance? Probably. The demands of the Society conflict with the demands of education.

Good point DanielP about education and class mobility. I couldn't have said it better myself.

In my hall, college is frowned upon. It used to be that when a youth graduated high school, they would go out and regular pioneer.

I once told some friends I was thinking of studying for my BA and you should have seen the way this regular pioneer sister looked at me!!

A lot of short term computer courses, such as CISCO and networking courses were very popular with the brothers a few years ago, and you could get a well paying job.

Times have changed, and now so many people have IT qualifications.

I got a couple of certifications, but haven't really used them. They were useful though.

i don't see any young ones graduating from high school and jumping into pioneering.

As i talk to teenagers in different congr. and different states, they are going to college.

So as they go off to a community college or university, it's not shocking anyone.

As a matter of fact, down deep i know most of the witnesses are happy when a young brother

goes for higher education and be equipped to make a living.

The governing body should be hung for continuing to discourage higher education because the end

is just around the corner. It was around the corner in 1870.

They are doing that on purpose. That's why the boasting sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, when a lot of college classes, tests, and recitations are held. They want to create the illusion that their science is advanced, so people will believe it and not question it. Let people go to college, and they are going to see how blatantly wrong the Puketower Society is in its articles. If they don't get that opportunity, they will not see the scam. Blow it if the people affected do not make a living.

I think they are going to get a lot stricter sometime next year, with the new Puketower arrangement. Once they can hide it from the public, they are going to come right out and ban college and all forms of "supplementary" education. I wouldn't be surprised if they told children who are at the age where they can legally drop out of high school to do so, making such mandatory, and get right out in the "field" and pioneer. They might couple it with a total ban on the Internet (one can really learn a lot just with the University of Google). Whatever is in that magazine is what you "know", it is "truth", it is all you are allowed to think. And in another 50 years or so, you are going to see a lot of children paying heavy penalties for dropping out of high school with no retirement and no pension, as they get older and close to retirement age. Shame on you Ted Jaracz--I hope you rot in hell for this.

danile-p, you are correct. It does differ with the location. I grew up working poor and were not expected to go to college do the wts fit right in. But many in our area were mid to upper class and THEIR kids did go to college or at least a trade type school. I went to college after my kids were adults , even then i got flack. My husband never got to college, but now he is looking into a way to get a degree while still working. They have took most of our life, but they won't get it all. How terrible to hold people back and keep them ignorant.

I'm glad to say that my *very* bright nephew, who's studying and wants to get baptized, has decided to go to college after working full time for a year and seeing how boring low skilled jobs are.
