What do you do to get yourself motivated to clean your house.

Do you go through spells where you are just not interested in housekeeping?

I am going through a phase(which now seems to be seroius) of just doing the least amount possible. Same with my yard.

I kept thinking something would spark me, but its just not coming to me.

I would almost rather move than do anything!!!!!!

I can't remember ever being this lazy about my housework.

I recently picked up the book "How Clean Is Your House?" written by the two British ladies that have the TV show. It's a cute book to read, and it's funny. It does have some great cleaning tips as well. Maybe reading that would help?

That's funny, I was just telling someone almost the exact same thing about myself. I'm kind of a neat freak, and I keep things pretty neat as a habit. But I haven't been motivated to really clean in awhile now. Very not like me.

What really motivates me is I invite someone special over for dinner or a movie.

Purps, This is nuts...I just posted a subject not 10 minutes ago regarding the same thing and referencing "How clean is your House on the BBC.

What inspires me is the swabs taken, and the outcome. Germs so bad on every surface it makes my skin crawl. Every time I start feeling lazy I think about the Bacteria factor and have to get busy!

Well, I hate cleaning and one of these days, I will hire someone to come in a few times a month and do it for me!

In the mean time, I do have a doormat that says: "This house was clean yesterday. Sorry you missed it!"

Don't get me wrong, my house is sanitary (kitchen disinfected with bleach, bathrooms too, but I definitely have clutter! It doesn't help thatI have an ADD approach to cleaning (my son gets it from somewhere you know!)

I start on the kitchen... then notice that the family room needs to be vaccuumed... then before that is done notice that I ought to replenish the toilet tissue in the bathroom...on the way to do that, I notice that the windows could use cleaning...you get the picture!

I used to have a cleaning woman (women helping women, was my excuse) but can't afford it now. When the house gets too awful I put on a pot of coffee and see how much cleaning I can do while the coffee maker is working. Then I sit down and drink my cup of coffee! You can get a lot done in five minutes if you push - and then at least one little spot is quite clean.

Same here. I usually enjoy housework. Its not a drudgery for me. But lately, it is that way. I am scared I will just keep not caring if it all gets done and start living like some old eccentric seahag kicking stuff out of my way to get to the bedroom!!!! Then scraping stuff off the bed to get in it even!!!!

My house is mostly clean..despite being a bachelor,,,,I DO know how to clean a house properly.... However, I am noticing cobwebs lately. I hire my big (adopted) sis to do the heavy cleaning about once a month. I keep up on the important things. Right now I have some clutter in my living room from my last out of town work trip a month ago...yes, I just emptied the suitcase, put away most of it, but have some things to sort though...but I am almost never home to do it....maybe I should get off JWD and clean the office. My office is a bit cluttered, and this is where the cobwebs are the worst (because i only have my sis clean the living room, kitchen and bath....I clean the office and bedroom....but never seem to hit the cobwebs...)

This is why I dont have a cat anymore. For 14 years, I had to stay after a litter box and cat hair. He died a 2-3 years ago. Now I dont have to mess with that hassle anymore and I am glad. I miss my cat though. If I had a cat, I swear I would have a giant hair ball combined with the cobwebs.

One book I found helpful was called Speed Cleaning. Amazon.com has new copies for $8 + s&h, or used copies for less than $2 +s&h. I have to reorder this, my mom has my copy.

I would however get the companion guide "Clutter Control" and use it first, then that makes the cleaning easier.....it is also available for about the same prices above. I still have and use this book, I need to get it back off the shelf.
