start living like some old eccentric seahag
Thats what I thought when I read your post. Have you started taking in cats? If not there is hope. If you have, you are doomed to the life of a seahag. Sweet dreams...

I used to clean the house top to bottom once a week. I did that for years. Than as the kids got older and I started working more because they didn't need me as much, I adopted the "I don't clean, I keep it clean" approach. You know, everyday tiddying up and upkeep and then doing big stuff like mopping and such when time allowed. Then I was in the "I keep it clean, so I if if don't get around to the big stuff all that often it's no biggie" mode. Lately, the "i keep it clean" motto has been falling by the wayside, and the big stuff is all but forgotten.
Who am I, and what have they done with my OCD?
I need my OCD! Can anyone find my OCD?

I hate housework. Despise it. I've been doing housework since I was 7 years old, and I'm just plain sick and tired of it. Having said that, I do like seeing the house clean; it's just terribly frustrating and disappointing to see it turn into a shambles again so easily. I've started turning over some of the chores to the kids (who are much older than 8 years old) so they can appreciate the effort that goes into a clean house.
Something that made housecleaning a little bit easier for me was the FlyLady website: www.flylady.net
Her philosophy is to divide the house into five zones, and then one week each month is devoted to each of the zones in terms of a thorough cleaning, decluttering and getting rid of things you no longer use or need. She believes in "baby steps": setting the timer for 15 minutes and focusing on the task and stopping when the timer goes off. You have a 15 minute morning routine, another one around dinner time and another one before bed. She encourages everyone to start by shining the kitchen sink every day before going to bed, so you wake up in the morning with a clean sink to use. You do a load of laundry in the morning and another one in the evening, so dirty laundry doesn't pile up. She does not believe in doing housework (except laundry and tidying up) on the weekends. There is one major clean-up day (she calls it "blessing the house"... woteva) each week, but because you're doing 45 minutes of tidying and decluttering every day, it just involves a quick run with the vacuum and mop and wiping down countertops. It takes some self-discipline, but it really works.
I want a maid
I suddenly have the urge to dust...
I only clean my house because I can't stand a dirty one. I keep things tidy all week long and have one day scheduled during the week to do the big cleaning. Works for me always has.
When I get burned out cleaning which happens frequently as I clean for other people 3 days a week......I use the reward system. The sooner I get my house cleaned the sooner I can _____. Then I push myself and get it done and go out and have fun! In the summer months when it's hot and what I want to do is spend time riding my bike I'll do that early in the morning then come home and torture myself cleaning, ugg. If it doesn't get done no biggy there's always next week, riding my bike is way more fun!
ahhhhhhhh to be a kid again, no worries just play!
I've devised the perfect house cleaning system. Rats are efficient creatures, and if you allow them to eat the leftovers under the couch, they'll readily handle the housecleaning on their own, and you don't have to lift a finger! Works wonders!
