The anticipation for the Sept KM is making me crazy! I hope this rumor is on the level. If it turns out to be a hoax I will be crushed.
So here's how my mind works... I make analogies of things and circumstances, I think in pictures, I talk in stories... So if this KM pans out, how do I reason with witness family members about the absurdity of it all?
Diner at Mario's
Chuck and Suzie live in a trendy loft in Soho. They love their home. They love their neighborhood. They love that they can walk to their favorite restaurants, have as much wine as they please with dinner, and not have to drive home.
By far their favorite restaurant is Mario's. They've been going there for years. In fact, they eat there at least 3 nights a week. They never get tired of going there. The menu is varied and ever changing, and the wine list impressive. The head chef, Pascuale, will whip up anything they want, even if it's not on the menu. They have become friends with Mario ,the owner, and with many of the other regulars as well. Mario's trully captures the essence of "the neighborhood restaurant".
One Thursday night, Mario himself sees them to their favorite table. They chat about the unusually warm fall weather and Mario's need to hire a new busboy. Then Mario gets a pained expression on his face. He takes Suzie's hand in both of his and says: "Suzie, Chuck, I am so worried!". "What's wrong Mario?" They ask in unison. "My daughter, Rosalie, saw you at "Carmen's Boriqua Delights" last Saturday night. I am crushed". "Well, Mario, we like all kinds of food and enjoy trying new restaurants. But you know that yours is by far our favorite, and we would not think of going anywhere else as often as we come here. You are like family", Chuck hastily blurts out. "Well of course, and where else would you go?", nods Mario.
"But, still, why, why would you go anywhere but here, when I treat you like my own. I give you our best table. I tell the servers to give you extra wine, on the house...why, why? Don't you know that Pascuale has studied under the master chefs of Europe and the US, and that all you have to do is ask him, and he will create any dish that your heart desires? Do you not realize that you have here, at Mario's, all the food you could possibly need?"
Mario continues rambling on about food and loyalty and tradition...Chuck and Suzie barely get a word in edge wise. Mario finally calms down and takes their order. He returns a little while later with their lobster ravioli, and as he leaves the table, looks over his shoulder and says:" You do know that I am not just Italian, but Sicilian, do you not?"
Chuck and Suzie can barely stand to swallow thier diner. They leave an exorbitant amount of money on the table and slip out the door when Mario goes goes into the kitchen.
The very next day, Suzie calls a real estate agent and puts the loft on the market. They move to a house in Staten Island and leave no forwading address. They never eat at Mario's again.
The End
