Who pays for new KHs?

I can remember when our congregation wanted to build a new Kingdumb Hell. The existing one was just fine, thank you. Their specious reasoning was that they needed to prepare for "expansion", and to make the building handicap accessible. And there was a pledge form sent out to each person, to get people to pledge a monthly donation to the Hell. They were hyping on being generous. And then, once they were all in, they said that if you for some reason don't make the payments, you are stealing from Jehovah.

As soon as I made my first payment, it was nothing but bad luck for me (and the check was still on its way to the bottom of the box when it started!). Even though my income ended up dropping sharply during the next several months, I attempted to pay (with a check, so they probably have a copy of the old checks to forge electronic checks from the routing and account numbers on them), and I must have paid 7 payments before realizing that the more I paid into this waste, the worse things would get for me (and not get any better once I stopped paying for the waste--one way). After that, I vowed never to pay a single penny for a new Kingdumb Hell, not to lift a finger to help them build or maintain it, and not support the building in any way.

I kept that promise. The Hell went up anyway, much to my dismay (and with another pledge form getting passed out, this one getting "lost at home"). And I didn't lift a finger for them to building it. I never lifted a finger for maintenance. I never so much as cleaned the damn thing! Nor would I shovel snow when needed. All I did was have the fun in watching them scalp the lawn every year, having the rear flower bed full of weeds, and enjoying all the dandelions in the lawn (too bad I didn't put some more in there once they spent all day pulling them out). To this day, they haven't gotten another penny out of me for the Hell, nor have I lifted a finger to support or maintain it. And I intend to keep it that way.

What happened to meeting in homes or building unpretentious halls?

I remember when they took pride in humble halls. The ones I have seen since I left 22 years ago are anything but unpretentious.

It seems to me that the $$$$$ is far more important than having humble places of worship or the heavy weights of building costs on the backs of their slave laborers

    Who pays for new KHs?

I do, now that you mention it, but I don't like to draw attention to myself.
