    The 500 is the " world's most powerful production revolver " , firing the .500 S&W Magnum . (Higher grain, but the Smith & Wesson .460 XVR has the highest muzzle velocity of any production revolver made [1] )

    My 44 has been dethroned. I can barely squeeze off 50 rounds with my 44. I can't imagine this beast...

    Dirty harry eat your heart out by the way the fix to the 50 cal hanguns ( recoil = pain ) go .50 action express.. alt

    The .50 Action Express (AE, 12.7 x 32.6 mm) is a large caliber handguncartridge. It was developed in 1988 by Evan Whildin of Action Arms.

    The Magnum ResearchDesert Eagle was the first handgun chambered for the .50 AE. Among the few commercial handgun cartridges designed that exceed its ballistic performance are the .454 Casull, .460 S&W Magnum and the .500 S&W Magnum.

    The actual cartridge has a .547 inch (13.9 mm) diameter base, with a rebated rim that is the same diameter as the .44 Magnum. The case length, at 1.285", is also identical to that of the .44 Magnum. This allows existing .44 Magnum Desert Eagle pistols to be upgraded to the new cartridge with only a barrel change. Original blueprints had been to use .510" diameter bullets (like the .50 BMG), but the polygonal rifling of the final prototype Desert Eagle allowed the .50 caliber bore plug to drop through, thus rendering the gun a destructive device under BATFE regulations. Nominal bullet diameter was reduced to the current 0.500 inch (12.7 mm);

    The principal uses of the .50 AE are metallic silhouette shooting and hunting.

    Recoil of the .50 AE in the Desert Eagle pistol is substantial, but most seasoned shooters can handle it. However, it is plenty to cause a flinch for many shooters. It is not uncommon for spent casings to fly up and over partitions/dividers in indoor shooting ranges, often traveling several feet at a time, and the firing can be heard through both earplugs and cup-style ear protection, even when used simultaneously. For these reasons, the .50 AE is not a cartridge for the beginner or novice. It is also quite expensive, at over $20 per box of 20 rounds. Other firearms chambered for the .50 AE include the AMT AutoMag V, LAR Grizzly Win Mag, Freedom Arms model 555, Magnum Research BFR.

    That 500 sure is a hoss, and there's an "Alaskan Guide" Model with a 2 inch bbl. It's a million times worse than the long barrel version.

    The 460 XVR is built on the same frame as the 500, but it is a little less recoil than the 500, and the velocity is about 40%better.

    I've shot both, and let just say- shooting gloves are your best friend.
