The Churches Are Going JW Style

I have noticed some of the local churches are beginning to call on homes in the neighborhood. We weren't home but they left a little bag of stuff. I went to church with my wife last night and they were trying to start a house calling work. I started to tell them to get a map and divide it into territories and to turn in a time slip on how much time they spent calling.

Some local churches have started going door to door these past couple of weeks as well.

Just read this from a poster here too.

I have lived here in the neighborhood for 6 1/2 years, there have been many times that church members came to my door, but very few JW's.

I have seen groups in parking lots handing out flyers to their church.

I think their going out like this - or door-knocking, is more like a 'membership drive' type of activity, done once every 6 months or so - rather than every single weekend - and more.

Plus, it makes them feel good. Even the Mormons don't go door-knocking as much as the JWs... well... maybe they do, since the JWs have dropped off with their door-knocking activity.

P.S. Funny remark about the 'territory maps'.

It's been happening here for years, but only infrequently. I always thought that Adventists went out door knocking somewhat regularly, but we have one only half a mile away and I've never see them in more than 13 years. Mostly, we get JWs and Mormons. They've been working the neighborhood at the same time on at least three occasions. I keep hoping they'll try Witnessing to each other and just end up locked in place. Sadly, it never happens.

If they get into a fist fight I promise to tape it and put it on YouTube for everybody, though! Any takers on who'll win? Place yer bets!

Yes, JW's say this is proof that they are the only one's that have god's blessing. Occasionally local churches will try to start up door-to-door preaching but quickly fizzle out. (Tisk, Tisk, Jehovah doesn't approve ot their work, says the JWs) Unlike the JWs though, they realise that door to door preaching is horribly ineffective... maybe there's a better way of reaching people in this modern era...

Do JWs still have a territory servant who keeps up with the maps and how often they are called on? I did that once. I used to know all the rural roads in our county and sometimes when I go driving out in the country I remember calling on the different homes and some of the bible studies we had there. It brings back some good memories of being with my family when I was young. I didn't like the preaching work but I did enjoy being with my family, who are almost all dead now.

One of the stalwart doctrines of 'proof that we have the troof' is the Jw claim that others don't 'preach' the message.

Of course it never was true to begin with - but I welcome those churches that do it, as it slaps the jw foolishness into next week.

Oh yes, Undecided, they most definitely do still have "territory servants." My dad served in that capacity for several years and spent LOTS of money (that he and my mom didn't really have) to get county maps enlarged, laminated, blah blah blah, all so they can go and insult people directly face to face in their homes. What a privileged position.

Lot's of churches have all sorts of outreach programs. My church has several, but there are big differences with JW's. First no one is compelled to go, its is strictly voluntary. Secondly, nobody keeps track of who does how much. Third the message was very generic. We preach the gospel message, not adherance to our beliefs or attendence at our church, although the invitation is extended.

A lot of what churches do comes in the form of mission projects: schools, feeding the hungry etc.

One of the board members said to the pastor that he looked around on the Sunday night meeting and there were only about 12 or so in attendance and were all in their 70s. In a few years the church would die if some new members didn't show up. So the idea of going out and finding new members was brought up.
