May you have peace!
Please know that I personally don't speak this way: I am African American, raised in the 'hood during the 60-70's, a former wearer of an afro and bell bottoms (well, actually, I still wear bell bottoms), a contemporary of the Watts riots, a HUGE fan of James Brown... and speak a great deal of "ebonics" when I have a mind to... as well as regular 'ol A-Merican.
What you "hear" me share here, however, is what I hear from the Spirit, translated from a form of ancient Hebrew-Aramaic (as close as I can tell) to as close as I can get to today's English. I am sure if you ask almost any bilingual person they will tell you that sometimes language translations take the form of the proper and/or archaic. I share it in this manner, however, because it's exactly how I hear it and I don't want to deviate one way or the other.
I apologize, then, that it "sounds" a bit out of date to you, but I think that if I had rapped it to you (which is about as "update" as one can get, these days), you would have the same reaction.
May I suggest you try not to take offense at the words themselves, but try to hear their message, instead? That might make it a bit "easier" on your ears.
I bid you peace.
Your servant and a slave of Christ,
SJ (the verbose)
