They shouldn't have the right to decide for their children whether they should receive a transfusion or not. For them to have a chance to survive it's better for the state to take over and give them blood. I can imagine how grateful a person would feel years later as an adult to the judge that got it out of the claws of the criminal JWs that wanted him/her dead.

Must be a really hard choice to make for a mom with a tiny baby needing a life saving blood transfusion to stick with the hardline stand on blood. I like the "You can get a court order can't you" which to me means yes I want the procedure but I don't wan trouble from the elders, JW elders who council member not to get transfusions should be held in criminal violation of the baby's civil rights.

I agree that a child has civil rights and that ANYONE who counsels against a proven life saving procedure should not only be prosecuted, but should have his b@#ls cut off. How is refusing blood for an infant different than abuse? Why is it not rightfully called murder?

And yes, there are risks to blood transfusions. But I know of no JW's who have EVER died of a blood transfusion, but have known 6 personally who have died while driving in service. There are risks to everything. The greatest risk of all is being a JW. IMHO.

Worldly Andre has hit the nail on the head, i have been there and i was so desperate for the courts to grant the blood which they did, and yes i did feel like a murderer thanks and have to live with my cowardice every single day and every time i look at my gorgeous son, so please don't give me a hard time cos no one can beat me up about it more than i do every single day.I felt even worse when i found out that the only amount of blood he had as a premmie was just a teaspoonful so not really a transfusion at all. And the whole time the jws were commiserating us on him having it i was secretly overjoyed they gave it to him.

To think of the fear i had of those elders and the hlc and even my husband seems ridiculous now, and i don't only hate myself but the whole lot of them, the hlc was urging my hubby not to let either of us have a transfusion and he was scared stiff as well. In an sudden emergency situation your head just goes nuts. With my second baby i said i wouldn't have a transfusion (again out of fear) but i told hubby and attempted to tell his family that if my baby needed it he'd have it without the courts that time but thankfully he didn't anyway. Anyway shout at me if you want i don't blame you, i can't change what i did but its something i have to live with for the rest of my life, and no, i don't know how i'd explain it to my son when he's older, we love each other so much.

    Hi dobbie

Please don't beat yourself up, you were a victim of the best propaganda and coercive manipulation cult money can buy. If it makes you feel better there are others here who understand. See: Would you once have let your child die for want of a blood transfusion?

One argument for not denying your child blood is that, the child is not one of Jehovah's Witnesses - he is not baptised. We do not even know that the child will EVER be a Witness. So basically they are denying blood to a non-Witness who does not believe that blood transfusions are wrong.
