To get ahead, did you get do more during the Circuit Overser's visit to make an impression? Did you cook him a meal or take him out dining?? Did you auxillary pioneer when he came by? Did you put your "happy face" on while he was around?

And if you were "reaching out", did you make sure you did everything that was asked of you---to prove yourself??

Did the womenfolk try to get cozy with the elder's wives to be with the "in" crowd??

No i pigging didn't! I never went out in service when the co was there or fawned over them, actually most of the time i didn't go near them, didn't see what the fuss was about tbh. We had one single CO once, wore designer suits and was very effiminate, my mil practically fawned over him made me feel sick. And no i was never a good dub wife who cooked them meals, why can't they get there own like everyone else! All meant to be equals in it after all!

nope, and even as a kid, i thought it was so stupid that people were all abuzz for the c.o.'s visit. wash your car, get a new suit.

your taking off of work to go in service, aren't you? NO? but, but, the c.o.'s here!

oh, but, he's just a normal guy, like me and you, so, he's no better than us, but, you'd better impress him and listen to what he has to say!.

No. I never was an ass kisser.

That was likely one of the reasons I was usually not allowed near whatever circuit overseer we had in my first congregation. Seriously. On one occasion after the first meeting of the week the circuit overseer asked me to visit him and his wife at their trailer. I arrived at the appointed time and within minutes an ass kissing ministerial servant and his wife showed up and barged in on the visit and took over. I later found out that the CO's invitation to me had been overheard and the couple assigned by the elders to do that. It seems that the previous CO had been impressed by moi, despite my being kept at a distance, and he'd recommended to the new CO that the elders should be pressured to make me an MS. The invitation was for the purpose of meeting me to find out why the previous CO was so impressed by me.

I also found out later that even before I was baptized the decision had already been made never to appoint me to an office in the congregation. When the COs started to suggest I be recommended, the elders had a fit. When it went as far as my being invited to a one-on-one visit by the CO the gloves really came off. By the time of his next visit I'd married and all kinds of really nasty rumors were being spread about my wife and I. Through the years the rumors got even more hostile. By the time I started college in 1991, I was fed up with it and didn't really give a damn what folks thought of it anymore (the rumors went around then that I'd gone to college because I was too lazy to get a decent job). Such was life in the "spiritual paradise." More like "people's republic" to me!
