According to a recent study, IBS is a condition that appears to be directly affected by personal circumstances that cause frustration and repressed emotions. The example given was of women who live under an authoritarian husband and are not allowed to express their feelings. I have a JW aunt who has suffered horribly from this miserable condition for years. Many years ago she had hinted around to me (the notorius apostate nephew) that she was interested in why I had rejected the "truth". I offered her a copy of CoC which she took. When my elder uncle found he made her return it to me unread and he cracked down on her. This included cruel, severe shunning of their daughter who had married a wordly man. She has gone along with the program ever since, even denying that she ever had questions about the org. She is now 66 yrs old and the IBS has almost made her an invalid. Doctors have never been able to find a cause. I think I know what the problem is.

The WTBS is making her sick to her stomach.
Horrible, I know, but I could not help myself.

WOW, I have IBS and produce WAY too much acid for a normal person. I didn't know it could make you invalid though. I feel for you aunt. Those I can't stand up straight up cramps are a B*tch. Thankfully mine is more or less under control now. They have no idea what caused mine either. That is a very interesting view point.

I've had the problem for about 10 years now. Exactly the time when I started feeling like I can't talk, walk, or do anything without feeling watched, or without having to respond to someone about my decisions and feelings. I get nervous, it hits me like a freight train. Now that I am inactive, I have felt better, still have the problem but less severe. Years ago I went to the doctor, and found nothing wrong with me. I've been depressed and all that is related. My depression is better too, by the way. This is a very common problem that a lot of people don't like to talk about, especially men. But it happens more than we know.

It's a shame if she only has 1 life to live she had to live it in such an oppressed abused situation. I guess God dropped the ball on her situation.

My mom used to suffer from what I think is IBS, she no longer goes to meetings since she is to ill (not with IBS) but that seems to have eased some since she stopped going to meetings and service.

The meetings used to give me gas. If you got up and went outside the elders got on you about not appreciating the Jehovah's banquet. Have I mentioned how that dude has lost all credibility with me? I mean, he is one bitchy little bastard. Overbearing, overcontrolling, extremely petty, lasy as hell. This is a whole new thread right here......

I worked for an employer at the front desk. Always had to be dressed to the nines, looking busy, and keep his meeting room dusted and stocked to the nines with beverages......there was not enough to do and I was constantly watched by his accounting Bit*ch. She hated me.
I developed horrible IBS on that job and was in miserable pain most of the day. I finally quit.
My boss was a Born Again Christian and claimed his fortune was due to his religion. Free Bibles kept on my desk, prayers said before company meetings....arggg it was sick. This was for a large firm out of California......Temporary Storage. What a rip.

When i left the jws, i also left behind a remendous amount of stress. A few of my health problems stopped, instantly. I think that a lot of disease conditions are caused by stress and by people suppressing (not dealing w) things. For instance, i remember a story about a kid who put on a real tough act whenever he was beaten, which happened regularly. That pain gets internalised and does not go away. It must be dealt w and released. In that story, the person is presently sick. Could there be a connection?

When I was married, I was sick all the time with this. I went to the doc and he said, if you don't change your eating habits and the stress in your life you are going to die in your thirties.
Well I divorced my ex when i was 28 and never had a problem with it since.
