My husband suffers from this condition or something very similar (he never has been diagnosed). When we were still active it would never fail hit him right before a meeting ,especially if he had a talk that night. He missed alot of meetings because of it ,and it would be up to me to explain to the brothers ," Ummm yeah Bro.Browbeat um hubby won't be here for his talk tonight he it commited to a meeting he couldn't get out of ....(.with a porcelien throne )"
Funny thing is he never really got the connection that the meetings were causing him undo stress. Now that we are inactive his symptoms are much better. He still has problems if he eats the wrong things
I have been suffering with this condition since I was in Junior High School and had t get up to give the weekly current events. It has gone into ANY stressful situation, even waiting in a long line at the market, etc. I have been on every known medication with no success.
When one of these bouts hits me, I can be stuck at home for as many as three---four months until it will disappear. It was exceptionally bad when I had a scheduled talk at the Kingdom Hall....and after putting up with this for 20 years, I finally resigned from the TMS. I figured I had given it a very good try. The elders had certainly seen me dash out just before my name was to be called...for many years.
It was during one of these periods that the dear sweet elders decided I was worthy of a sheparding call and did nothing but read scriptures lecturing me on "meeting attendance". After THAT I only got phone calls once a month to report my "time" after that evening. I have never gone into a Kingdom Hall since that time.
The "brotherhood" has no patience or sympathy with these different illnesses and conditions and put the running of the Kingdom Hall and the meetings above all else. I have family members that have this also, so it might have something to do with that. I have stopped eating all the foods that were supposed to be bad for IBS, none with no success. Then other days I can wolf down a fried sausage and pepper sub and never have a "tummy grumble" so Go figure! My internist has given up prescribing drugs for me that don't work.
I truly feel a kinship with any of you who suffer with this.
hugs,
Annie
