Good to see you posting Jeff! I thought you had left the board a while back, but I guess I was wrong.
The 144,000 was slowly developed into a doctrine mainly about organizational power. The longer time went on the more I think Rutherford and especially Knorr/Franz realized this. -

LOL!!! I missed that. Sorry, I can see that now... Duh!

Great point Drew. JW had to change it once the membership grew over...... 144,001. It's tough to play musical chairs with salvation, so why not come up with a clergy/laity class JW style?
Knorr had nothing to do with the doctrine other then give it final approval. After Rutherford died, Franz made up all of this bolgna up until the mid 80's....... Now the JW are in the same boat they accuse other religions of being stuck in: That is, they have this traditional teaching that they are married to, and they can't really get rid of it. So they prop it up with unrelated scriptures and assume that the bible is only for them, just like all the other religions they condemn.

To hell with the FDS/GB ! SARCASM RULES !
You guys obviously dont understand that the FDS has been given full control over Christ belongings on earth since 1918 (Yes that is in Rev too ) They have a deeper understanding of the bible than any of you could possibly have. The Rev is like a letter to the FDS on earth, how could they of all people misunderstand it?
This is the primary reason most of you apostates fall away from the truth. I feel sorry for you all when the great trib breaks out.
*praying for all of you*

Really amazing when you think about it.
From what I can tell, the JWs have simply replaced who their 'church fathers' are.
Both Orthodox and Catholic traditions (as well as some protestants) point back to Christians from 100-300 as the 'Church Fathers', individuals who theological insights are of the utmost importance.
What the JWs have done is create a 'gap theory' by which Christianity ended with the last apostle around 100 CE and then picked up with CTR in the 1800s. Any Christian who wrote or discussed any doctrine that is not in scripture is declared a heretic. So Russell, Rutherford, A.H Macmillan, Knorr, Franz are put in the same sort of light (and authority) as most would put those early Christians from long ago. -

Hellrider, funny you mention the four angels at the corners holding back the wind. we just studied that in rev book and we dont believe that simple statment either. no, has to be 4 group of angels, and stupid little groups of three apparantly, look at the full page picture in sure enough, not four angels, but two groups of three angels at two corners, so we really get 12 for the job----no expanation!!
LoL. Ask an elder to explain it (all innocent-like; dear brother oh-so-theocratic, I am having some difficulties understanding this with the groups of angels...could you please help me with this..."). It would be fun to hear if they know the explanation to these crazy doctrines...and if they don`t...then why are they even elders?

I'm not sure, but I think they're doing this in order to gloss over the "one angel for every corner of the earth" -concept. That could be "misunderstood" to mean that the Bible teaches the Earth is flat.

Ok, so what is the bible saying? What is mankind's hope? Why are we here? Who's right? What about the innocent children brought into a world of abuse and terror? Is that the life they should really expect to live? Is that really what is intended? What about the poor souls who grow up or live in lands of war, poverty, economic depression? Is that all they get? What about the all the sicko's regardless of religion who get away with a variety of unthinkable crimes of all types? Where is the justice? Hell, then there is global warming!
I am just genuinely curious. There has been much intelligent logic in this string, what is the logic for the above? I am not discounting the good in the world. There is still much of that everyday. BUT I also cant ignore the rest.
