i wonder if there's the same experience w/ mormons, UPS delivery men and women, political activists, etc.

"I was just praying that God send me a sign, and this UPS guy shows up with a package.
The catalog items I ordered must be a sign from God to be stylish from now on."

"I was just praying that God show me the correct path when this guy running for the
state legislation shows up at my door. WOW, I never concerned myself with politics before.
I will have to listen to God, though, and take this seriously."

"I always thought Mormons (or JW's) were wacko, but I was praying when they rang my bell."

I have read that people enjoy "stories" to fit their beliefs. Statistical normal occurrences like
ordinary coincidence are usually under-examined. I suppose you could ask any group that
rings doorbells for a billion hours how many people were just praying or were just talking about
their expected package, and you would get some stories.
Add in that most people don't answer their door because they are not at home or don't want
    to be bothered.

This is a pure non-sequitor. If I could know what a whole city was doing at the same time, chances are that some would be praying for guidance at any one time, or have just finished doing so. Now, if they are going to every door, there is a pretty good chance that one of those people is going to be one of the ones getting called on. If they only go to one territory out of 40, there is a 1 in 40 chance that the person who has been praying is going to get answered. That also means that 39 out of the 40 will have that prayer unanswered that time through, and it could be another week or more before they get hit.

It is interesting how many people are actually praying for guidance at any one, per 100,000 people. But there have to be some out of work, who have a financial or relationship mess, or that just don't know where to turn. Some are at the end of the line, and are praying as one last step before suicide (which is all too common, given that society is designed to stop people from breaking into the system and fulfilling their hopes and dreams). It's only a matter of time before the Witlesses are going to run into this, and maybe even interrupt a suicide (but then again, the mailman or UPS truck could just as well do the same).

The only difference is that the Witlesses give the angels the credit. The damn angels are not doing it, since the Witlesses hit every door. That line would be more credible if the Witlesses were hitting doors in a seemingly haphazard way and always got the person home, and the person was usually praying for guidance (or having just finished such prayer). If that was the case, then the story would be more credible. But the number of not at homes (why would the angels waste resources on not at homes?) and people that are just plain not interested, including apostates that have moved into the territory (again, why would the angels waste the time on people that are going to start an argument or are not interested?)

I personally had that experience of praying and JW's showing up. I thought it was God's direction. I knew as soon a I found about the UN/NGO scandal that there was no way this organization had God's blessing. I was so sure, because of my experience, that this was the truth. I "felt" it.

Now I realize that it was a coincidence and me wanting to feel God's direction. I must admit that I am mad at God for letting me think that when all I was doing was praying for guidance, why didn't I get any?

Maybe because I was sitting there smoking pot and reading the Bible when they knocked on my door.

Nearly as bad as the jw urban legend experience of a golfer whose marriage was in trouble and he was on golf course. Hit his ball and landed in the rough on a discarded WT magazine about succesful marriage and then he came in the truth. The legend experience says he is now an elder

The WTBTS is not above (actually they do this quite often) maneuvering facts to create the illusion they desire.

What we have to ask ourselves though is , has there been an instance of this in the past ? documented? any one remmember and old fellah named Balaam? donkey doesn't move , it absolutely frightened by something he can see but his rider cannot? sound familiar?. Don't ever suppose for one second that Jehovah's angelic forces are not powerful enough to stop a simple human from harming another human, and remmember how modest they are also. Of course this may have happened and of course the WTBTS would exploit it and say it was evidence of Jehovah's divine blessing upon them, " Is it from this rock , that (I) shall bring you people water!!" you get the point?

If the angels protected the girl in service why did they not prevent the auto accident that killed a prominent pioneer in my old congregation? This is for real in a southwest Ohio (USA) KH. Why did it not prevent a young man from walking in front of a semi-tractor on the highway to kill himself a few months ago? Don't fall for that crap.

The angels seem to ignore such prayers in the Muslim world. Why do God's angels hate Muslims?

    patientbrother,

Obviously angels are fickle and partial, since many JW's/christians are murdered, molested, raped, killed, suicidal, and they are not protected.

For every person you think was protected by an angel, you denounce and insult hundreds of other victims of violence and natural disasters that were NOT..

Just because a story made it into the bible, does not make them true, anymore than shakespeare's plays are documentaries of real life persons and events..

Stupid blind faith insults victims of violence.

I heard a story in the Kingdom Hall that goes like this.

Long ago, far far away, a man shot some sales guy that knocked on his door. When the cops arrested this maniac, they asked why the JW that knocked on his door moments before did not get shot. He stated that he decided to kill the next person who comes to his door, but could not because they JW had two huge dudes standing behind her.

Even back then I speculated that this was an exageration. Surely this story just goes around and around and around ad nauseum. It all horse sh... oops almost said something nasty..

    AGENTSMITH:

I am from the other side of the world from where you come from... according to the flag that shows on your avatar... I come from Puerto Rico and I also heard that story. I didn't know it was that famous. I live in the states now and in the beggining of last year a "sister" and her two sons ( or one) got murdered by this "mentally ill" man, son of another sister. They were helping this man to get back on track, he was friend with her son. But he decided to kill them that day, for reasons I don't remember now. This sister was in very good standing in the congregation, in fact a book study was being conducted in her house. They were found by the Book study conductor. I ask myself then, where were the angels that day? Doesn't seem fair, doesn't it?
