Witnesses are getting so disconnected from the Doctrine, but won't let go!

In addition to your observations I would add that many times I've heard witnesses say, "Even if it isn't the "Truth" its the best way to live your life." More and more the "Even if it isn't the Truth" part is stated. Good to hear your report. W.Once

I recently visited family and friends across country and got very few JW related questions. I was relieved because I'm fading (haven't been to a mtg where I live in several months) and didn't want to come out just yet. I got a few "So how's the pioneer work?" from a few older folks but that was it. A lot of folks wanted to set up something to come visit but I found a way around that. One of my sisters is a super-dub...we were talking on the phone about the great time we all had at our recent get together and she expressed concerned that no one seems to be interested in pioneering anymore. Then she said something that indicated that she has her doubts but will do things to prove to herself that Jehovah is real. I almost took the hook but decided it wasn't the right time.

But anyway, a lot of young JWs are buying homes and working and going to school at the same time. The JW activities are just a mere formality for them but also a way to meet a mate or keep their family or elders off their back.

I have noticed this too about JW not mentioning JW related things. Certainly not the uplifting spiritual conversations of my youth and early 20s when I was regular pioneering.

My "adopted" (not really adopted or my sister..just how we view each other..as siblings) big sister came over and we were just hanging out, drinking a beer, working on putting together something I had bought...we did not talk about JW stuff for awhile. But then it got interesting. I think she has some serious doubts about the "Truth". She does not consider it shocking that this time last year I was an elder and now I miss so many meetings, dont go in ministry..... she does not express guilt when she misses meetings.

Ironically, if the elders in her hall knew she and I were alone in my house with no one else around she and I would be in "big trouble"...esp since it was 11 at night. She is 10 years older and no way would I ever go there with her. The elders dont care about such things though. 2 years ago she would never be alone in the house with me. My how attitudes soften as this old system drags on.

I have found it true with a lot of my JW friends that education is becoming important, and it seems everyone is just "biding their time" until the end finally comes..IF it comes.

Yaaaaayyyyyy for the loosening of the mental bonds.

Hmmmmm...on the other hand it could certainly strengthen the Watchtower Society to have clueless members.

If you can circumvent causes for complaint and still remain a JW in good standing there really is no reason to look elsewhere.

As a social organization that requires no charity or community service it can be a sweet deal.

But for how long can you stay active and preach to others, when you deep inside have the "if it isn't the Truth, it's still an OK life for me" attitude?

That's what stopped me initially: I couldn't lie people in the face when in field ministry.

    Crisis of Conscience, indeed.

People in the Borg never discuss or express an opinion on "spiritual things" because they are all terrified of being thought as apostates.

What if they are not up to date with new light.

Remember the FDS does not endorse independant discussion of the scriptures outside the kingdimb Hell.

    AK - Jeff,

Of course if someone drops a nuclear bomb in the middle east - the damn KH's will overflow again.

Wait, now. 9/11 was only 6 years ago. Big boost in jaydub activity – and now we're talking about decline again. :)

Interesting thread, and I've seen the same myself.

I'm at my ex-wife's any time of the day or evening working on projects, just the two of us there, and we think nothing of it. She's an active JW. I always hated that the WTS's view is if a male and female within a 50-year age range are near each other, they'll jump into bed in seconds if left alone!

I often heard over the years the old, "even if this isn't the truth, it's still the best way of life" nonsense myself. Maybe that's becoming less and less true.

I hear bitter comments form my JW family and friends all the time. Of course, if I made these comments they would look at me funny. How long will they continue to serve an organization that they see is seriously flawed????

Point taken, GF. However short the increased activity is or lasts, it just keeps moving the time of slow erosion off further. But, then again a major nuclear event would carry larger impact to those on the fringes even than 9/11 IMO. I think this would hold true for all churches to be honest. Now, had 9/11 continued to go on for a few months, I mean in terms of continued attack on Western soil and repeatedly, then I believe the increased activity would have lasted throughout. In that case, it would have had 'Armageddon' earmarks to jbduds. But the intensity does seem to flare and fall quickly nowadays. and that is a good thing.
