Witnesses are getting so disconnected from the Doctrine, but won't let go!

    Great thread OTWO.

I imagine that your experience would have been different if they knew that you were not "around" any more. I have gotten sick of the false smiles/pity/"are you OK" thing.

As for "spiritual" conversation, we spent some time with my family recently and noticed that what qualifies as "spiritual" conversation is really gossip about who's getting divorced, who's getting married, who's not regular at meetings, etc. A real eye-opener. My wife is very interested in Jewish history and theology and eastern teachings. You will wait a long time before you hear any comments about any of these items among JWs. And if you bring the subject up, be prepared for blank stares.

    Great responses, all. Thanks.

OH YES. That would be followed by the uninvite that I expect will eventually happen.

It's just a shame that so many can be so disconnected yet allow themselves to go on
saying it's "the truth." They can gossip so much about anyone who dares to go a step
beyond their disconnect and become inactive or say it's not the truth.

On the surface, this seems like good news. People will not accept the tyranny of an organization that is a farce. However, there is one wild card the Watchtower Society has yet to play: The Crackdown. They might start outright banning college (not just frowning on it). They might make using the Internet the equivalent of using the Ouija board, and start disfellowshipping people who have Internet access at home or that go to the library to use the computers there (or, for that matter, that go to the library at all). And they might start enforcing everyone-must-pioneer months and crack down on those who cheat on their times.

I sure hope people start walking out when the crackdowns begin. That crap about Jehovah's finally acting will for sure be used when they start cracking down on these things. Yes, I want the Tower down--but somehow I think the leaders are going to fight tooth and nail to prevent members from getting access to the information, no matter how much it damages them.
