take highway ten west to the 101. Merge onto the 101 and go north through Ventura and Oxnard. After Santa Barbara 1 splits away from 101 - it's faster to take 101 but 1 goes through a huge oak preserve, then it goes past Vandenberg air force base, and through some cute little towns before rejoining 101. Stop for lunch in Morro Bay - I don't remember the name of the restaurant but it has been there a long time and it overlooks the bay. Head on to San Simeon - there's a good hotel on the left, rather pricy but ocean views, a cheaper hotel on the right, no views but who looks at the views when they are asleep? The elephant seals are all over the place, on the beaches north of San Simeon. Hope that answers your question.
