Is There Free Will In Heaven?

Christians will say the reason there's so much evil in the world is because of free will. Even Christians will 'sin' on occasion, but they believe they can be forgiven. Free will is seen as a bad thing...?

But upon entering heaven (which I'm saying exists for the purpose of this discussion) do we still have free will? If we're not robots in heaven, then what will allow us to be 'us' and do the things we want if not free will? I suppose this can be applied to a paradise too, if anyone still believes in that.

A large segment of Christianity (Augustine, Luther, Calvin, to name but a few Christian thinkers) is actually quite aware of the logical flaws of the concept of "free will" and tends to either reject it altogether or limit its area of validity very drastically.

For the purpose of this discussion...I would think that god would have jobs for everyone...

Unless he wants his angels to just sit on their @ss and do nothing but bow down a million times over and over again to god...

I wonder what believers think that heaven will be like?

I have no desire to go to heaven, I imagine it to be a beautiful place with nothing to do but worship god for eternity

The only way I would like being a spirit person is if I was allowed to roam the universe at will. (I can fly the speed of light or faster!)

Yes. You'll be free to think and do whatever you like [as long as it's allowed by God].

I doubt there'll be a suggestion box there.

Perhaps one of Satan's greatest accomplishments is the deception that we are free.

For instance, most people will say that they "try" to treat others the way they want to be treated. But they can't always do this. This lack is caused by the domination of sin. The same can be said for lying, stealing etc. We are slaves, not freemen.

In heaven, you'll truly be free to do the things you can only dream about.

Except for sex, or anything else pleasurable that can only be done in a physical dimension.

And if it's Jehovah, you can't even have a blowjob!

But could you really do everything you want? How about killing people? How about going to Earth and haunting people you once knew? How about making your own planet with living beings? Even 'free will' in heaven must have boundaries to make it less than free, surely?

The only issue I have with free will and "life" in heaven is this -- I don't want to play the harp. I want to play the trombone. Do you think this will be an issue with God?

The problem with free will is that it can interfere with the freedoms of others and then ceases to be good. In that case there is no free will in heaven or on earth though in heaven things are less risky because the residents there have so much more space and goods than do those on earth. It will be hard not to be satisfied with your glorious lot.

    How about after an eternity?
