Yes it's done in our area, on a market stall. An utter waste of time, but of course the positive spin machine is set in motion to make it seem refreshing and exciting. How many different ways can you flog a dead horse?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's just an out holying the Jonses thing so they can be a "fine example" at the assemblies.

Never seen it before myself, but I try not to pay attention to the booths in the mall.

I remember when they used to go preaching at the railway station (which my hubby hated cos he worked there) and the manager actually banned them so they did it outside instead.

Also for a few years, once a year one of our parks lets out a space for anyone to set up a stall for say charity or for religions to preach and they have been doing that for about three years i think, its not every week or anything but i remember feeling sorry for the poor people out for a nice day at the park and having to listen to all that!

My dad has been going to the local community college one morning a week for many years. His congregation has a table with literature in several languages. Their target audience seems to be the international student community. Now that he is in his mid 70's, it is easy field service, almost more of a social time for him. As more people are away at work during the week and the many closed security apartments in city areas, door to door activities are ineffective. So it doesn't surprise me that they are branching out to where people are...and still preying upon the vulnerable.

The dude that stands on the corner of Lake and State here in Chicago is there all the time. I have yet to see him talk to anyone. He just stands their like a magazine rack and holds the magazine up with one hand. Though, he always has his i-pod in his right ear. Clearly he is not actively seeking people out, but rather just taking the easy approach to "service".

I wish I could have done that when I was a pioneer. They were constantly cracking the whip on us. I would have loved to have painted my self silver and stood there with a magazine in one hand standing on a wooden box and a tin can in front of me. I could have made some extra cash on the side and help pay my bills from pioneering.

Years ago in NYC, a sister, last named King, had a booth or table with all types of WT literature set up at Port Authority at 42nd Street in NYC.

I remember her well. Does anyone else remember Sister King?

Funny you should say that. I go to community college in a neighborhood which is not close to my own (about 10 miles away). One windy afternoon, there was a dub booth set up there. They were busy chasing literature; they hadn't prepared for it by bringing paperweights. I didn't recognize them, and I was sure they wouldn't recognize me. I entertained the notion of nailing them on the irony of them setting up shop on a college campus, given their anti-higher education policy (in particular, Losch's 2005 diatribe against higher education).

I decided against it at that time because they were distracted with chasing down their litter-ature....but if they set up shop there again, I would like to see how they weasel their way out of it.

They've been at the local county fair here for several years, usually in between the SnowCone and the henna tattoo artist... And they worry so much about bringing reproach on Jehooover's name!
