Mrs. Witness, I did try the WW's diet and it worked great for me. The thing is I have forgotten the points system. I had all their books but have lost it since I moved. I can remember some of the points value but not all. I tried to do a google search but even on the WW's website, I couldn't find the points counter.

I may go back to WW's for a couple of weeks just to get the points book again unless I can find it on Ebay...hmmm, may try Ebay.

I don't know yet how I will take action. I just know I need to do something. My blood pressure is back up and they had to put me back on HBP meds again. I haven't been on the meds for close to 2 years. My BP has been hitting around 145/98 I noticed that lately my migraines have been coming back too.

i stay away from simple carbs and go for complex carbs. complex carbs break down slower and give you a better "burn" more energy for a longer time. simple carbs burn fast and give you that jolt, then you crash.

also, if you have the means, get a elliptical machine. they are zero impact and give you a superior workout than walking alone.

I'd stay away from ebay. A person I worked with wanted to get a points counter off of ebay and it ended up that she would have paid less to go to a meeting and get the stuff! What I did was go to a couple meetings, get the stuff, get an idea of how it works, then quit. You get to a point where you can ballpark the points just from looking at the label.

Here is the top 10 foods for greater health according to MSN.com beets, cabbage, swiss chard, cinnamon, porselane ?,pommegranate juice, goji berries, prunes, pumpkin seeds. For men, it's tomato sauce, and walnuts for anti oxidents.

What kills your diet is-soft drinks, donuts, etc. I did some weight lifting for about 6 months(you have to feel your body to heat up)-the burn. Increase your water intake. I consume some orange juice, but not too much. And yes- lots of water to make you feel full.

Most of all , just burn more than you ingest. Maintain regularity as well. I walk about 3 km 3 times a week. 6 months later, down 20 pounds. I need about 5 more. But it's a constant struggle to just say no to all that yummy junk food! Good luck!

I looked into getting Hoodia after seeing an info-mercial on the telly recently.

After doing some research on the internet, it appears that this is a plant that is not that abundant - that comes from africa(?). Anyway... due to the shortage, it seems that some are becoming unscrupulous(sp?) and putting all sorts of other stuff into their pills - pretty much junk - making the effectiveness of the 'hoodia' pretty much nil.

    So - I didn't order any.

My wife is looking into getting some sort of tea that is supposed to help with weight-loss. We'll see.

I'm also a great believer in exercise and moderation in eating. It seems that everything is working against us though - because when you go out to eat, they always want to 'super-size' the meals (not just talking about fast-food, either).

We've discovered that we can often times split a meal - reducing both the cost of the dinner, and also ensuring that we eat less.

    Good Luck.

Yeah, one of the "fillers", if you don't find the right person selling it, is sawdust. I think they are now saying that if they don't have a certificate and a stamp of approval then it's got the fillers in it. The thing is, because so many people want to make money and not really care if it hurts people or not, I think they could probably find a way to get a "certificate" that can trick people thinking it's got the 100% hoodia formula.

Worldtraveller I believe porselane is in fact purslane a kind of leaf vegetable that grows along the ground, a "Google Image" search will show what it looks like.

Hoodia comes from the Kalahari desert which is located in Southern Africa and is supposed to work by suppressing appetite for food.

I don't believe that any of these pills help much, the only one way is the good old calorie restriction diet assisted by some exercise. Leave a deficit of around 1000 calories and walk rather briskly at the rate of a parade taking 16 to 17 minutes to cover a mile. Taking 30 minutes to cover a mile, as Mrs Witness mentioned, is hopelessly slow.

A diet done properly ie providing all necessary nutrition other than calories should work well otherwise if it creates deficiencies of vitamins and minerals, even of one of these, it is guarenteed to fail. The instincts of survival will take over and enforce an increase in food consumption to cover the deficiencies.

I stopped drinking pop--I have water with crystal light instead.

I have fruit for a snack instead of cookies or candy bars. I have quite a problem craving crunchy snacks--so I have been eating Baked Lays potato crisps--they have way less fat than regular chips.

I've lost close to 35 pounds since the beginning of the year and have corrected my blood pressure!

I also try to eat a very light dinner. I'm amazed that any of this worked--I always have such a hard time losing weight

I've lost 112 pounds since August 2006. I have tried hoodia - hell I've tried everything. The thing about hoodia is that it also depresses thirst, so you are risking dehydration and bladder infection. What worked for me: calorieking.com. Much better than weight watchers, daily feedback, realistic goals, quite helpful in fact. $55/year is good too, cheaper than weight watchers.

    EXACTLY!!!

This is what I have tried to tell my wife! We go walking at break time, here at work, and go around the block. My wife 'strolls'. I 'stride'. She complains that she cannot keep up. I tell her that if she wants to actually do any good walking, she has to sweat a little. (Make it burn)

This last Monday - I travelled to Dallas on business. We flew there, and had carry-on luggage. My two supervisors took the escalators. I took the stairs. The next day, I 'felt' that workout. But - it felt good.

Taking the stairs - instead of the elevator or escalator is a good thing. It does not hurt to walk up a flight or two of stairs.
