The JW's and several other "The End Is Near" Religions would have us believe that we are living in the last days, because the world is worse now that it has ever been before...

So then:

If you could choose to live at any time period in human history what time period would it be?

But here's the catch: You don't get to choose who you are, what race you are, what sexual orientation you are, or even what gender you are... You could be a poor black straight woman in Asia, or a rich white gay guy in Europe, or some random hermaphrodite, or anyone else. You have no control over that...

What time period would you choose to live in?

I believe, on the whole, the world has progressed since 1914.

So can I go into the future, to see further progress? I want to see if the world REALLY gets worse like the doomsayers predict, and I want to see if the WTS organization shrivels up or transmogrifies into something very different from what we're seeing now.

Put me in the year 2035, please. And let me keep my ex-JW knowledge even if I'm in a different body.

1914 is becoming an embarrassment to the WT and they know it, thats why they don't trumpet it as their main doctrine anymore.

I think the world is getting worse but not because of 1914, it just is. If you can't choose what or where to come back then pretty much take your pick as there has always been suffering on a large scale.

well, I'm finally getting the hang of life, and not being much of a risk taker, I'd choose the life I have as me.

Without question NOW is by far the best time in all history to live.

I remember being struck by that point watching a doco on one of the Pharoah's with a tooth growing up into his skull and incisions into his skull to relieve the pain. Even a king in past times could not enjoy life the poorest person now enjoys by the simple fact that we have asprin and dentists.

How about the year after the FDA, AMA, FTC. IRS, and all our regulatory agencies that use the "common good" and "higher causes" to usurp our livelihoods and our freedoms are permanently put out of commission. True, there will be a period of unsafe products and damage to the environment. However, the free market will quickly put unsafe products off the market (they will go belly up), and any damage to the environment will be cleaned up by yet another business that uses the pollution for its own raw material.

Oh yes, and the Watchtower Society will be so seriously weakened that they will not have a chance.

Now it's the best time to live in for anyone because people are better educated, more cultured, medical science is far more advanced and the worst excesses of social injustice have been removed. Overall a lot more people are better off today than in 1914 especially those of the working classes.

Since the world is SO much worse since 1914...
