No religion will not end with a bang. It will end with a whimper. Science and reason will dominate more and more.

Exactly IP-SEC, why do you think so many Fundies are crazy over their guns? Because we could rise up and fight against a tyrannical government if that ever happened.

    That's the most realistic scenario.

    It's happening already.

Just as the majority no longer think that sickness is a divine punishment, in time, the majority will be convinced that the ancient myths are exactly that, myths.

One of the teachings of the witnesses is that prophetically, it has been revealed that religion will be banned shortly, and that this is another sign of the great tribulation.

Armageddon was always coming shortly - ever since the 1800s. It was always just around the corner and it still hasn't come. Now the old codgers at Brooklyn won't have anything to answer for because they'll all be dead of old age soon. It's the biggest con since the scribes wrote the Hebrew scriptures and pretended they were written at the time.

Assuming the other prophecies were a load of hoodlum, how would you feel if you turned on the news this morning and saw that Bush, Brown, and other world leaders declared a united front, banning religion? Would it make you wonder whether the witnesses may have been right?

It will never happen. Bush is a dyed-in-the-wool Born Again Christian with a huge Bible belt following (even American money has 'In God We Trust' printed on it). Brown is the son of a minister and says he values his upbringing. So it won't happen here, either. Nope, religion is here to stay for a very long time. Longer than Armageddon (which will never happen). Ian

If you played a prank on the JWs by putting a notice on the Hall door one Sunday morning saying " Due to an immediate and unforeseen Goverenment ban on all Religions, this place of Worship will be closed until further notice ", I wonder how the Dubs would react?

Would they be excited ot would they crap themselves, having "inside knowledge" so to speak?

There is only one way for all religion to die. And that's for science to fill in. Science would need to find explanations for everything, and if the scientists are unfettered by dishonest companies seeking to bias the results, they would ultimately do just that. For instance, there was a time when lightning was viewed as a direct act of God. We know now that it is nothing more than static electricity that gets discharged.

When every phenomenom is understood scientifically, there will be nothing left for God (or the demons) to do. All that will be left is the after-death reward and punishment system. And, once science figures out how to resurrect someone to their original condition, that problem will be solved once and for all time. God will then be fired--without any laws to do it.

I do not see a worldwide statutory ban on religion. I am, however, hoping for one against the Witlesses. The Witlesses deserve it because they manipulate people in the name of God, keep them ignorant in the name of God, and get people to fear the demons for nothing. And they take what little money the members are allowed to make to spread the virus. Strip away the religion, and you have little more than a pyramid scam, which is already illegal. Hence, there is no reason why the Witlesses should be allowed.

What if the Watchtower was involved with the political elements,

    I think they are.

Science would need to find explanations for everything

And leave it a hundred or more years for people to actually accept- like evolution.
