yep that sucks...means you have a heart that you cant fire without at least thinking about it a bit.

sorry my med transcription skills arent better or I could help you. I have done transcription, even have a 'scriber....but it was in construction field not medical that I have real life experience.. I have a degree in medical office incl a certificate in med trans...but school is different than real life transcribing. .. besides... i'm too damn busy now with other work... LOL Hmmm, I wonder if my mom is interested in some contract work? :( (I think she retires officially tomorrow lol)

...as mouthy said...just enjoy your vacation....

    peace out...

She had been written up for poor job performance more than one time. I was very specific in telling her what I expected of her. Where I work, you just can't fire someone for a couple of infractions like being late; you go through a serious of verbal, written and final warnings for that. On a final warning on production, you get put on a month work improvement plan and that didn't help.

Some of the other employees were resentful at how slow she was and her doing all kinds of nonessential stuff that didn't matter as far as reaching the work objective goal. You do have to present a lot of documentation and send it to HR and then have them review it. I had about 19 pages of documentation on her. What she would do is come in late enough times to get wrote up, wait a few months until it drops off accumulatively and then start over again. They called back and said they didn't have to read all of it and that I had enough to get rid of her. I really thought she could be able to adapt and finally catch on but she didn't. I really think she has some psychological problems.

When I hired her last year she was the only applicant with any experience whatsoever. I didnt even get any applicants fresh out of school wanting hands-on experience! Medical transcriptionists are so hard to find.

I already have several backups for outsource work in case we get behind but don't outsource no more than I have to since it is more expensive and it could send us overbudget if not careful.

Yeah. Personally I don't know how he stands the job--would drive me crazy. His problem is he lives in the sticks and it just won't pay for him to commute.

    Wednesday,

I also fired somebody for sleeping on the job!! I had to last year. I had called her into my boss's office where she and I both fired her together; sometimes when I give corrective action or have to fire somebody I do it in the presence of my boss to have a witness present. The employee cried and I excused myself after it was officially over and she stayed in my boss's office for a while after that. I think she was on drugs; she always called in sick and would have her boyfriend come visit her at the smoking area and the other employees told me he looked pretty rough and was kinda "tweeky acting", lol.

I gave a verbal write up to an employee last week. She had been late 6 times in 2 weeks. I am not talking no 5 to 10 minutes. They all ranged from 30 minutes to 3 hours. She claims to be going through some kind of family crisis but enough is enough. Since last week she has been late twice. Tomorrow another write up. It's three strikes and you are out. I don't think she will last another week.

I've worked with some real winners too. The warehouse guys that had cubbyholes hidden in the upper shelves so they could hide out, nap, smoke etc. Yeah, smoke. In a warehouse full of paper & cardboard. Bloody brilliant they were. They would move there hiding places every so often so as to avoid detection. This only came to light after they were fired for other stupid crap.

The guy that used company time and materials to do outside work. Cheated on the time clock continually. Was one of those that complained about how much he did but in reality didn't do. Everyone knew and complained but nothing got done so I told the owner that it seemed like I was the only one that had a problem with it so it was best if I left. Ten minutes later the guy was unemployed. Who knew ;)

People expressed doubts that we could get by without him. Yeah, right. I had to step up a little but that was ok. So now I even donate a little time on occasion. Not often mind you but now and then. The perfect frickin' little employee. ;(

It's as if those who are concerned with what everyone else is doing because they're not busy enough to keep themselves occupied. ;-)
