I'm about to lose my car because I can't afford it, and so I'm just going to work and save money for a used vehicle. Now I've heard used vehicles break down all the time but I'm hoping theres reliable used vehicles out there. In particular I'm looking for a Jeep Wrangler, something a college student working part time can afford. Where can I look? Any magazines? Online trade? Where do I shop smart?
Where can I look to get a reliable inexpensive Jeep Wrangler?

Try craigslist. I can't vouch for the quality of them, but it's worth a shot. A friend of mine got a 2005 Harley Sportster w/ 2500 miles on it for $7K. It was in great condition.

Automobile auctions.
In August 2003 bought a 1999 Plymouth Breeze in great shape for $1500 at an auction in kentucky.
Almost bought a 2001 Volvo S-70 the same night for $6200 but didn't have enough after I paid for the Breeze.
The only drawback to auctions are...
Most require a Dealer license to get in the door
Cash or a letter of credit from your bank

Jeep Wranglers aren't reliable? I have no clue, this is my first. Whats a reliable off road vehicle for traveling the American country side doing excavation work? I will definitely need one after graduation if I want to be a shovel bum. So a vehicle that won't break down is a must because I don't want to deal with it when I'm out in the middle of nowhere. I no nothing about cars.

Don't buy a wrangler- you will be sorry with the 12-15mpg it gets. They are overpriced, too.

Easy. They're all over the place, you just need to know where to look.
These should be inexpensive:
That'll get you started.
BA- Glad I was able to help!

Tsunami,
I don't know alot about Jeep wrangler's but one of my friends had one and there was always something wrong with it. I had a Chrysler Sebring (same company) and that thing was a piece of crap. I was constantly dumping money into it, It had all kinds of electrical problems. Major nightmare.
If you want reliable... go for a Toyota.
