You're not saving money at all, you're just using other people's.

    I believe that's the objective.

I believe in the rule of three.

Whatever you "put out there" energy wise, will be returned threefold. Put out positive energy, you get back good. Put out negative energy, well, you get my point.

There was a time when I couldn't contribute, now I can. For me, it's all about paying it forward.

    Snowbird, you're in my thoughts.

Looks cool. I don't think we have anything like that organised nationally over here - except maybe the Salvation Army.

FHN mentioned she was looking into this ministry earlier this week - I'll stick a link to this thread on her thread so she doesn't miss it if she's having trouble getting in touch with them.

FD - stop being so darned analytical LOL!!

I couldn't have said it better. When I first left home with a newborn at age 18, I had my best friends parents to help me out. If it wasn't for their love and help I don't know where I would have ended up. When we moved into our own apartment we got food stamps and wic, but as soon as we both (my best friend who also had an infant) started making enough money we cut it off. We both could have stayed on it, food stamps, money wic but thought that others needed it more. The only thing we both continued was the day care program, and then we paid a percentage of that.

My point to this is, I try not to judge others. It's not for me to say what they need or do not need. Sure there are some that milk the system and take for free even if they don't have to. But for those that truely in need, regardless of why or how they got there if my 25.00 will help someone so be it! If I get something somewhere down the line for my generosity (measly 25.00) that's great, if not I feel good knowing that someone had a decent meal, shirt, pants, etc.........

That's not so much a money saving idea as a charity. You're not saving money at all, you're just using other people's.

And what's wrong with charity, with caring for others when times are tough for them. Right now my husband is disabled and fighting to get his company disability, money is very tight and thankfully I may have found a night job to help bring some cash into the house. But until then we have no money and are surviving on what little we have. Angel with go a long way for us and will help carry us to the next month. I don't do what I do to take advantage, this is no advantage, we're not getting ahead we're barely making it. But we have hope that things will change and when they do we will give back more than we've been given over the last year and eight months.

Let me add another filler here. I'm taking care of my nine-year old granddaughter whose daddy was killed in an apparent drug deal gone terribly bad. Her mother went into a funk and placed her in foster care. I marched myself right to the foster home's steps and reclaimed her. That girl eats like a young bull!

Due to my depression/anxiety issues, I had to step down from a well-paying position with the county. My pay was reduced almost 50%. I am just over the line for qualifying for a lot of safety-net programs. This one fits the bill, so I will definitely try it.

A good way to save money is by checking up the special offers of the local supermarkets in the brochures that they put in letter boxes or on their internet sites. Often there are some really good offers eg two chickens or two packets of frozen peas for the price of one. If these come up often it might be worth investing in a home freezer and buying in large quantities.

I bought a little freezer that's just right for the three of us. I intend to fill that baby up.

Angelfood ministry is wonderful. I connected FlyingHighNow with them in Michigan, and now she's found them in TN where she lives now. I really hope they can help you out, too, sniowbird! FHN said that for the $25 she got a LOT of food, and it was good quality food, too.

    Thanks for mentioning angelfood, mrsjones.
