Have you ever forgotten your baby was in the car?

What's up with this wave of people forgetting their babies are in the car?

I'm a certifiable dingbat but I never forgot my kids were in the car. If I ever did, I can't see it happening for more than a few minutes and then running back to the car to get them. Some of these kids were left for hours.

Do you think they just "forgot" or something else is going on?

Are we "multitasking" so much we are forgetting our kids?

Are big SUV's with tinted windows to blame?

I just think this is weird...

Locally an elementary school principal left her baby in the car all day, baby died....

It was later noted that she had previously been warned for leaving her children in the car while she ran in to the store.

I also can't imagine forgetting a child in my care. Very sad.

    Very, very sad stories!

NO! We have never left any of our babies in the car!

HOWEVER! A few weeks ago we did leave one of our 15 year old sons in the car!! He had ducked down on the back seat to pick something up and we had just FORGOTTEN him! The car has automatic central locking and an alarm, but he couldn't get out!!! We were in the house trying to work out why the car alarm wouldn't shut off and where had Al gone? Did Al want or did Al NOT want a cup of tea and why was he not answering us?! Finally, we ran outside to see who was trying to steal the car and there he was gesticulating in a most 'unchristian' fashion at us!

I went home at lunch time once to surprise my kids (they were home with my domestic worker). I had a cup of tea and then had to go back to work. My daughter snuck into my car and hid behind the back seat. She did not make a sound I didn't know she was there until I hear a knock at my office door and there she was. I was so surprised to see her. At first I thought my husband had brought her to the office. She was 6 years old at the time.

From what I have read, in some cases, the child is asleep in the backseat's child's restraining seat, and the parent driving doesn't know the kid is in there because the other parent had originally planned to take the child him/herself in their vehicle. A crazy mixup and the child sleeping soundly left the parent in the dark. How sad to hear the end results of an innocent mixup *sniff*

I do not understand and cannot fathom how ANYONE can forget their child is in the car. It is beyond the pale. On the other hand, those enormous car seats

parents are supposed to use nowadays for kids (in some states for kids who weigh up to 75lbs.) does make it easier for a parent who did not originally place their

child in the seat to be unaware a child is in the car if the child is sleeping, because it takes them out of their routine, i.e., child seat, sealt belt adjustment, etc....

Still, I have a very difficult time with the stories about children dieing in parking lots from dehydration and hyperthermia due to the negligence of a parent. It infuriates me

and saddens me at the same time.

I've never forgotten my kids in the car, but for the 1st 3 years after child #3 was born, I was constantly looking for the 4th nonexistent child whenever we went somewhere.

Not a case of forgotten babies, but an example of why no child should be left alone in a car if possible:
