Sexuality discussions on JWD

As a rule of thumb I always use descriptions and phrases that are allowed on US TV and radio. Is that OK or still too graphic?

Well there is a problem with that. People can subscribe to anything these days. Some people would try to stretch that and post things that are unwanted on JWD.

I have a 13 year old granddaughter. I would NOT have wanted her to be looking over my shoulder when I saw a picture of a naked man with his penis as the main attraction.

Reclaiming a sense humor or learning to laugh is a vital step when leaving the WT$. There are so many depressing and downer threads here that humor is absolutely needed to balance it out.

Very true. I think a sense of humor about life is a required quality for us to grow. But that does not mean we have to resort to getting our adolescent jollies from skirting the line.

Simon has made it quite clear in the past that threads that offer nothing but titillation can be posted elsewhere.

I still have not fiqured out what is construed as hijacking here vs posting an opposite view. So much is up to the whim or mood of the mods.

jgnat above provided an excellent example of hijacking a thread - start with one topic and turning it into something that was not intended. There is a difference between offering a second opinion and totally changing the topic. It isn't that hard to figure out.

Someone just leaving the Borg will offend at the slightest sexual inuendo while someone like me that has been out for 24 yrs. is completely immune. .

That is what the adult section of the board is for. Not the posting of pornography either in text or image form.

I have to say that if a topic is posted in the adult thread, then those who choose to read it know what the topic is about. That's what I thought the adult thread was for, to avoid triggering in those who didn't want to read it. Just my opinion though.

Even in the adult section there are limits to what is accepted here on JWD.

I agree with Brent. Most of what is posted in Adult is a far cry from porn. The recent trollery is an obvious exception to what most people would consider posting in the Adult section. What most people put in the Adult area, jokes or otherwise, would not be interpreted as breaking the guidelines posted re: porn, obscenity etc. by a significant percentage of posters. What does typically happen is the moral judgements and values of a few are imposed upon the many, via moderation techniques.

If one CHOOSES to view a topic in the Adult section, it is likely an edited version based on the moral judgements of a few. This was my point, thanks for helping to clarify it.

There has been the good suggestion made that the adult section of JWD not come up automatically when you click the active topics link.

That way, only those who wish to view the adult section, have to physically click on it,

so that those who are at work do not have to be view topic headings that may get them in trouble at work.

Sorry if this is considered hijacking.

I agree with what ladylee is stating, however, none of the regular posters here post porn. Only trolls do. We're not that crazy

Regular posters agree that porn should not be on the board. Porn isn't really the issue or intent of this thread warning however. The warning is really in regards to humorous or adult related discussions that moderators deem unsuitable based on their personal value judgements.

Some of us just need to blow off a little steam. Most of us understand this and do not bring porn, or obscenity into our posts. I like "double entendre," and a little flirt once in a while. I would hate not being able to have a little of this.

Completely and utterly agreed with Bisous and Brent. There have been serious and helpful discussions in the adult section that were curtailed by the moderators.

My question then would be... why have an adult section at all?

I should have clarified network TV not cable or satellite.

I have seen discussions on Oprah and Dr Phil where sexuality topics were sprinkled with some light humor and inuendo but still interesting. If my 65 y/o active JW mom watches those shows I fiqured it would OK for here also. I guess I was wrong.

I did have to laugh at the comment about the 13 year old grandkid and the man's penis. LMAO!!!!! Gimme a break, what REGULAR poster here posts porn pics??? and why do we need porn announcements for trolls?? I stand by my prior comments. The warning isn't about porn and trolls. It is about all you *tsk tsk* adolescents who want to have a joke or 2 that is deemed unsuitable.
