The Other Side of the Wall

I was born in the garden. I was taught that going outside its protective wall would bring sorrow and misery. They were wrong and they were right.

changeling - you wrote that so beautifully. I know I would be crushed if my daughter ended up being trapped in there.

    Dear Changeling,

You leave me speechless - you have told "our" story.

I want freedom for my entire family, who followed me into the Garden beginning forty years ago.

    They delight in the Garden,
But I am east of Eden.
I delight in breathing free ...
    Why does my heart ache?

    Have I lost Paradise
    Or have I regained life?
    I reach to loved ones
Through this wall I see ...

    They don't know my pain,
    For I hide it well.
I pound the wall to bring it down,
But still, it's east of Eden I remain ...

Sorry - it's been a while - but you led me to confront my/our pain ...

    Love,

    CoCo

You are so poignantly eloquent Changeling.

I grew up within the wall too and I was forced outside. I was scared and alone. Everyone I knew and loved remained within the wall. Slowly, the sun began to shine on me and people I would formerly never have given more than a smug passing glance took me in hand. I blossomed and found happiness--a fact that confounds my family still within the walls. I tread carefully though to keep hidden the fact that I despise their paradise, their truth because one member of my family reaches out to me. I don't want to lose that, so I balance precariously between what is in my life and what she wants to hear.

You are free to speak here though amongst the comfort of familiar strangers who have tales so similar to yours. I hope you continue to write your prose and share it.

    Changeling - Terrifyingly Truthful!

We checked out five years ago.......and we still haven't 'left'!

But inside that Paradise, it is full of snakes in the grass!

    Beautifully written Changeling.

I look at my wife and my children and wonder:

Who will make it (outside the wall) and who won't?

I'm shooting for 100% but mentally preparing for the situation you so painfully describe.

Thanks for taking the time to put that into words.
